I think Barack Obama has already made the world a kinder and safer place |
|
without even trying.
You can just feel it in your bones, a sense of comfort that's almost surreal. Can you feel it, too?
Bush never did anything to make people want to stop fighting, but now we've got the perfect gentleman in charge who is going to do just that. Obama will give them every excuse to STOP.
I know beyond the shadow of a doubt that the world is on the verge of a new, more peaceful era, now that a monster has been replaced by such a good man.
There is something magical about this new president that's hard to put into words.

1. I agree. I know he and Michelle have made me want to serve |
|
in some capacity and give something to those less fortunate. I've always dumped clothes in a bag and shipped them off to the nearest Salvation Army, but now I WANT to go tutor, help out in a soup kitchen, take an elderly person to the store. I've done some of these things every now and then but the feeling involved has changed for me.
Very hard to put into words! You are so right!

3. Good stuff, firedupdem |

It's really nice that you want to give some of your time to help people.
I volunteer for a couple local organizations, and there is nothing more satisfying. Be careful, though, if you're real enthusiastic as a volunteer, your organization will quickly make you an officer ;).
As far as helping elderly people, I think the one thing that so many of them love more than anything else is when someone "visits" with them, meaning just sitting down and conversing with them for a few minutes about anything. You'll be surprised how much you can learn from them, too.

4. I'm about to get busy! |
|
I've been sulking a bit since I moved here from the burbs of Detroit this past July. I miss my friends...nothing feels comfortable and I'm unemployed. I have the final phase of a job interview coming on the 28th. I can't wait to get my life back to normal.
Serving will help me get out and meet some people and stop being so damn mean! :)
