86. Why not?
I work in Internet security. There is absolutely no reason he can't have one. We sell some of the most security-related software on the market (and, in fact, have done work for the Executive Office of the President).

There's no reason he can't have one.

40. Presidents don't usually do their day-to-day work in the Oval Office. They have a..
second office in a neighboring room which is more for their daily work. The Oval office is typically used more for formal occassions, meetings, etc...

36. See, he hasn't wasted any time setting up his desk.
All that desk shit's still in a box. He got into the office, sat down, and started making calls. He'll either get stuff out as he needs it or put his desk together on his own time, not the people's time.

That's my theory anyway.

Must be because he keeps the draps open. Bush always had them closed to soften the lighting and allow Cheney to sit in on meetings during daylight hours.

49. The Resolute Desk. Interesting history behind it.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Resolute_desk

The History Channel had a special on the history of the White House and how the administrations added to or remodeled the rooms. If you could get past the fact that it was mostly a White House tour with Pickles (and the twins from the Antiques Road Show), that is. With any luck, HC will redo the doc with the current occupants.

According to the doc, FDR also used the desk, except he requested the swinging panel be added in front to cover the wheelchair. (It's also the same desk in the famous photo of JFK, Jr. playing under the desk while his Dad worked). Reagan had risers added to the bottom of the desk to accomodate his height.

Nice to see the desk be put to proper use again and not just used as a cowboy boot holder...

51. The first time he sat down there must have been interesting...
I have an image of him walking into the Oval Office sometime in the last 36 hours, stepping around behind the desk, looking at the chair and that expanse of desktop, and then sitting down in front of those windows for the first time as President. I'll bet he grinned, but he may also have grimaced...

75. I bet he either was very solemn, or cried, knowing the history of who has been in that room before
him as president, and how so much was done to get him there that had nothing to do with his own effort.

what a surreal feeling he has experienced thanks to those who came before who fought for rights, and the tens of millions that strongly supported him and showed up to vote for him on election day.

GOBAMA! Praying for you!

76. I heard on the news tonight
He got there a little after 8 this morning, went in alone and closed the doors for 10 minutes. Then they went off to the prayer service.

Ten minutes to sit down alone and vibe the place in (and chase the BAD vibes out.)

It still could use a good smudging, though.
