The Stuff Obama's Done So Far Is CHOKING ME UP!!! |
|
It's been a bit over 24 hours and I'm impressed already!
New rules on lobbyists, a pay freeze, commitment to transparency, Gitmo trials suspended, phone calls committing to peace in the ME, review of all pending regulations etc. Wow! A real, honest to goodness leader who is working for the people!

valuable from dim son the past two months in office. Only what could be done in the dead of night-midnight regs- got done, besides legacy whining.
More President Obama please.

He's actually doing it.
I can scarcely believe it myself. I was so expecting (jadedly so) a Republican-Light President.

10. Ethics is not a Democratic or Republican problem... |
|
it is a political problem. There was plenty of ethical and corruption issues in Clinton's administration. Obama is trying to slam the door shut on all the loopholes in the White House. I hope he now turns his focus to ethics legislation for the Congress. Their behavior has been despicable for years and it's time for someone to hold them accountable. The problem will be gaining support for it. Why would they seriously want to change their behavior when they're the ones benefiting from it (even as the American taxpayers' money and rights get thrown down the drain)?

19. I completely agree with this |
|
Congress is simply in shambles, corruption wise. What I am waiting to see is how Congress reacts the minute it is their ox being gored. Which repubs and which democrats start trying to shut down things that Obama wants because they are getting cut out of their own personal goodie box treats?
This will get very lively very shortly. And I'll be watching - those senators and reps, whether dems or repubs, who attempt to punish Obama for trying to get ethics back into the game, and to minimize instances of corruption and greed, will be on my list to never vote for. And maybe to actively seek their dismissal from office come 2010.
I couldn't have asked for more than to see a president immediately focus on the nut of things, and began the "get 'er done" process within 24 hours of taking office. I am more than cautiously optimistic, I am feeling relieved.

7. Beetwasher, I agree... |
|
This is the definition of change. He is walking the walk. One of the biggest problems in D.C. is corruption and lobbyist influence. He is trying to get rid of that in the White House. The only control he has over Congress on this will be through legislation. Hopefully he is able to get some stricter ethics laws put in place to govern the Congress' behavior. Knowing them, however, they will resist the changes he wants because they're a bunch of corrupt crooks.
I am really rooting for his economic plan to help the country even though I'm not very optimistic about it. I really want this President to be looked at in an objective manner on all issues, not JUST on how he fares with the economy. The way I look at it, if there is improvement in the economy by the time he leaves office, people will start looking at the other things he does. And I have a feeling they will like what they see. Accountability, transparency, better ethics, and a more civil tone of discussion between the parties in Washington. Those are huge changes for Washington, yet they will be completely ignored if the economy is still in the dumper by the time he leaves office. It is a huge challenge to turn this 60-year-in-the-making economic crisis around. This shit is not his fault, but I've got a bad feeling that people will not look past that in judging his Presidency. They want him to save the economy first and foremost. As an American, I root for the economy to get better because it's good for all of us. But also as an Obama supporter, I want him to get a fair shake. This crisis is not his fault and I don't want his Presidency judged entirely on the economy. I want it judged on how he's going to change the way government operates in D.C.

12. I Really Trust Him Now |
|
He's going to do the right thing for the economy. He's going to listen to the right people and ultimately do what is NEEDED. Stuff we're seeing now is POSITIONING. After the last 24 hours I trust him even more.

14. I trust him with the White House... |
|
Regarding the economy, however, I have a fear that once the money goes into the hands of other people, that's when greed and corruption come into play. He can lay the smack down on his own staff and run a clean White House pretty easily. But he has very little control over this bailout money when it is handed over to these corporations. I think we need new regulations put in place for how the money is spent. I hope he's able to get Congress to put insanely strict rules on how the money is spent, both with the new bailout and the stimulus package. I fear that it will be money down the drain just like the first bailout.

13. But.....a small but...... |
|
You the people have to make sure to call on all your reps. to follow his lead...or they will be voted out, they must be made aware by their constituents that this is the direction you want your country to move ...this change has to include each and everyone of you....Never give up...and President Obama - Keep up the good fight for truth and justice for all!

We should tell our reps to follow OUR lead, not his. If his plans are the same as ours, then they need to listen to both us and him. However, if our plans are different then his, then we don't want our reps following him, we want them following us, right?

22. agreed.....but will there be compromises? |
|
In the sense that not everyone can agree on everthing...so if your plans are different would you compromise to get work done ...if you get my meaning....as I think He would listen to all, but ultimately make the final decision...which in the end may not be what you planned...but may include compromises he made.

He was seen giving the presidential limo a tune-up while telling reporters that after he was done, he would personally review all Gitmo cases, conducting his own DNA tests when necessary, finish hooking up the new email servers, and then he had a few holes in the Oval Office to spackle before moving on the North Korea situation. "That should take me until 7:30 p.m. when I'll tuck the kids in then I'll solve the economy problem before turning in at 11," the new president said.
