**For Immediate Release**The New Agenda Hails NY Choice of Gillibrand for U. S. Senate |

For Immediate Release Contact: Amy Siskind Email: NewAgendaPress@yahoo.com Date: January 23, 2009
The New Agenda Hails NY Choice of Gillibrand for U. S. Senate
The New Agenda, a new, nonpartisan women's rights organization, hailed New York Governor David Paterson's choice of U.S. Representative Kirsten Gillibrand to fill the Senate seat vacated by Hillary Rodham Clinton.
"This is what feminism looks like. Today's announcement embodies the new women's movement in America," said Amy Siskind, a New Yorker and co-founder of The New Agenda. "It's bold. It's sensible. It's substantive. And most important it's resilient. This is the right way to turn the page from 2008 to 2009."
After the 2008 election, ten states have lower representation of women in state government. The U.S. Congress is still 84 percent male and women lost four seats overall. The U.S. Senate is 83 percent male, and women gained just one seat in the November election.
Siskind said today's news is particularly important, because the U.S. Senate represents one of the most patriarchal bodies in the world with only 37 women serving in the Senate since its 1789 establishment - less than 2 percent.
"Rep. Gillibrand has consistently stood up for the voters of her district and reached across the aisle to work with both parties," said Siskind whose organization recommended Gillibrand. "Rep. Gillibrand was fiercely loyal to Sen. Clinton when she ran for President, realizing the importance of getting a woman to the highest office, and she refused to fall in the trap of personal attacks aimed at Gov. Sarah Palin. The New Agenda looks forward to working with Senator Gillibrand to advance women's rights and shatter the highest glass ceiling - our Presidency."

3. worked hard at what exactly? Her senate record from 2001-2007 put her on same page as Lieberman |
|
and they both stayed in support of the neocon agenda Bush was pushing with his terrorism and Iraq war decisions - until Clintons saw Lieberman lose his primary race .

12. No one was claiming Obama was a great senator - the claims are HRC was outstanding or hard to follow |

when the truth is she was no different than Lieberman from 2001-2007 when she ADJUSTED her rhetoric to attract left primary voters. All of a sudden she found some voice to OPPOSE Bush, or at least SOUND like she opposed Bush - but, it was still just rhetoric. Her vote on Kyl-Lieberman was proof of that.
So....was she representing NY well and working hard for this country when she positioned herself in full and public support of Bush's decisions on terrorism and Iraq war until the end of 2006? I don't think so.
Ever hear her interview meeting with the Iraq Study Group? She sat there like a potted plant listening to them talk and offering nothing but cooperation from the senate. She offered NO SOLUTIONS and NO DIRECTION, though they were conducting these meetings so concerned senators COULD have their input.

8. She is not a progressive |
|
She's a damn moderate, and I hate moderates. Let the moderates come from states with more right leaning populations. No excuse not to choose a true left leaning progressive for NY. This woman can take her guns and NRA Charlton Heston bullshit and shove it!

14. IMO her record is overall more progressive |
|
than most elected democrats today. I am not a fan of the NRA and I do think she is wrong on the illegal immigration issue, but beyond that her record is outstanding.
