Please don't release Butler's move in U.S. - Lets sign a petition |
|
I sincerely hope that George Butler delays the release of his film on Kerry. The last thing we need is to focus on Kerry's Vietnam record again. The media is all over Shrubs's MIA and has sort of been ignoring the recent barrage of attacks by the lying swifties. This movie will just bring Kerry back into the forefront with shots of him throwing away his medals and denouncing the war.
While I believe it is probably an amazing film, most Americans won't see it. What they will see is the pathetic media showing footage of Kerry's anti-War days and painting him as weak and unpatriotic. We don't need to provide the skewed media additional ammunition.
Should we get a petition together to stop the release of this film?

1. That would be a GOP tactic. I do not support it. |
|
Let the truth get out there. If the american people are stupid enough to believe lies, they deserve to get a dictatorship and their country ruined forever.

perhaps talking to Butler would make better sense. Don't you people see how the media skews anything to do with Vietnam in Bush's favor? I don't believe the American people are stupid but they won't see the film and will believe what they read in the news. You know Karl Rove and the radio machine will use this as proof of JK being unpatriotic.
We need to win in November in order to restore sanity in this world. I don't want to move to Canada but these Repubs are the most vicious thugs in the world.

7. Don't buy it, not by a long shot. |
|
First, Kerry's anti-Vietnam War stance is one of COURAGE, he went to war, saw the quagmire for what it was while performing his duties with honor, came back and tried to get national policy changed by pointing out the consequences of a mistake.
Second, In the 30 yrs or so since them, more and more people have come to realize that Kerry and the anti Vietnam War Movement were correct, the war was wrong.
Third, IMHO the campaign is moving into a new phase. Bush's Presidential record is becoming the issue, his war (Iraq), and Kerry's stand during the 70's on his war (Vietnam) will only enhance the differences.
So I would not worry about this movie. Petition, talking with Butler, boycotting, picketing, etc this movie will only bring attention to it.

8. Again, you're missing the point |
|
Petition is the wrong word. Why would we want to boycott a film we approve of? All I'm saying is that we should write a letter to George Butler asking him if he sees any negative consequences of the film being released. This country does not get the courage it took for JK to do what he did when coming back from that god-awful war.
You're right - the campaign is moving into a new phase. Lets keep it there rather than moving backwards. People are not going to see the film but they'll read about the Swifties lies in the papers and see their ugly faces on TV.

I thought you were talking about an antiKerry film....LOL
I had heard of one in the works a few weeks ago and thought this was the one.
Look, I would not worry about the film's negative impact, it will be minor.
The Swifties are well funded, but like almost any media flash in the pan, they are becoming old news. Yes, they'll still have an impact, but by focusing on Bush's perfomance, Kerry is adressing THE ISSUES. And that is what folks want to hear.

There's nothing un-American about Kerry's antiwar activities.
But there is something un-American about wanting to ban a film.

6. Who's saying anything about being Un-American? |
|
I'm not trying to ban the film - I'm suggesting that a delay in release would help keep the focus on the war in Iraq and current domestic issues. We don't need to revisit Vietnam again in this campaign - I'm sorry but the other side will distort the truth and the people MAY believe it to be reality. This tactic has worked for them before.
If being un-American is warning your party about the potential consequences of something, well, then I'm un-American.

10. No, this is a free society...plus, Kerry can diffuse this... |
|
Kerry's problem with the Swift-Vets wasn't so much the message, but the lack of a response BY Kerry. Some in his campaign convinced him that if he said nothing, it would blow over. Instead, it blew up. If this movie comes out, Kerry can deliver a few diffusing blows before it even hits theaters. Once the blow is softened, the media will not focus on it as much. The real news in late Sept. and into Oct. is going to be the debates.
