2. Seems less vitriolic this time... but still nutty.
Some are at least acknowledging and even celebrating Obama as President.

Ofcourse, comments like this are still around too:

"I still feel like the more qualified woman was jumped over by a lesser qualified younger man, that had the good fortune to be black. "

("Good Fortune"???? Comments like that STILL make me angry. What ignorant dumbasses.)

So in summary, HCF is still a haven for bitter nutbags, but at least SOME of them are moving out of delusion and hate and into acceptance. Baby steps, baby steps.

3. I really am confused by the phenomenon that is Clinton... because
it really doesn't seem to happen with any other pol on "our side". We criticize different Dems, even Obama, and we may bicker and disagree, but it feels very different (maybe it's my imagination, but it seems awfully vivid) if criticisms are lodged at Clinton - or maybe it's the Clinton's and the legacy they both have.

I am impressed, though, that their support is so complete - with such passion and loyalty... That is unusual, too, generally speaking.

I just wish we could agree to disagree (even about one or both Clintons) without things getting ugly. That sounds like I'm putting all the responsibility on their defenders, and I don't mean to... there are a lot of inappropriate insults foisted on the Clinton's that don't have an explanation behind them to at least provide some sense of reasoning for making the challenge... so it goes both ways. But if someone has a gripe about something regarding a Clinton, it's fair to hear them out even if it leads to disagreement.

Everyone messes up, everyone makes mistakes. Even Hillary Clinton. Even Obama (we seem to have no problem criticizing him without turning on each other with such hostility! It's okay to call someone out when they mess up - even if you are their most avid supporter! It only makes them better - and certainly makes the conversation more palatable).

I guess what I just wrote qualifies as a - shoot I forget the word... "a concern post" or something. So be it. : )

The vitriol is still unique and confusing... it really is.

7. I am confused too.
People hero-worship Obama for sure. I certainly have been guilty of it. But for me and many others, it's got little to do with him PERSONALLY and more about what he REPRESENTS. The first african american President. A young, fresh face. The anti-Bush. Change, change, change. Righting the wrongs. And so on...

But I am under no illusions. I do not know Barack. Barack is not my close personal friend. I do not know what he is really like behind closed doors. I don't believe he is infallible. I believe he WILL disappoint me at some point or another. He is just a man.

The hero-worship for Hillary seems PERSONAL. It's not just about WOMEN, because they attack other women who don't like Hillary. It's not about an ideology - there are many politicians with her same ideology. It's obviously not about being "new" and "different" - she's been in the public eye since the 80s. So what is it about?

I feel that it's very focused on worshipping HILLARY the person. It's as if some people believe they have a real connection or friendship with a woman they have never met, or only met in passing. This would explain the vitriol. It's not just that they are defending their political ideals or a politician working on issues important to them... they are defending their "friend"... however imaginary that friendship is.

I disagree with your statement:
"I am impressed, though, that their support is so complete - with such passion and loyalty".

I am not impressed at all. In fact, I find it stalker-ish and fanatical. It is focused on the promoting the individual instead of the individual's message or ideals. PEOPLE are fallible. IDEALS are enduring.

But hey, it's a free country. People are allowed to worship whomever they choose for whatever reason... but it is just not constructive in terms of political dialogue.
