2. I wasn't very warm about Geithner's nomination.
But if this type of transparency is a sign of what to come, I'll support him 100%.

and what they could do with it. And I would use the word 'only'.

This is just crap to wear down the American public. Seriously, this is the PERFECT EXAMPLE of how they've taken the government, the laws, and the courts away from the American people and handed it to the few.

edit: the reason people came here was to get away from shennanigans like this, i.e. the Star Chamber. Now they've got it so tangled up in legalese and little hidden rules and regs that you practically have to have an attorney for traffic court.

included with the 500 plus pages?

It does have to be either/or.

16. And I bet any halfway-competent lawyer could dodge your "only" in an hour or so
Each of the companies getting assistance from the government only has entire battalions of people whose goal is to seek out and take advantage of loopholes.

A lengthly, specific contract as a condition of a corporation getting billions of government dollars is not a violation of your rights or a conspiracy to do same. Me, I'm quite happy with them having a giant, specific tome saying what they can and can't do and how they can and can't do it. Seriously, comparing admittedly-complex legal documents with the bloody Star Chamber is just hyperbole.

23. No, it's not. This is the kind of shit that's put us where we are today. The
government belongs to the people, and we've been shut out by shysters and what has become a professional class of politicians. At one time political office, or at least participation in political life was what Americans naturally felt obligated to do. Now, we have a class of people who do nothing else and they feel that they can vote they way THEY want to vote, not taking their constituents wants into consideration at all.

It's all smoke and mirrors.

24. This is very smart. Since the government cannot seem to hold the bank suit and ties accountable
I bet the people sure will. I for one will not bank with anyone who takes our money and gives out bonuses.

It is time to get a good breakdown for the people on this: We need to know how much and what the bonus is for the criminals in charge at each one of these banks. Get the list up and start writing letters to let these banks know change or go elsewhere for business.

really...Now I love our new administration but just because a list of things is put on a website doesn't mean it is accurate or complete.

Headsmack.

Why don't you do everybody a favor by reading the TARP Legislation and checking the math your goddamn self. The whole point of transparency is that ANYONE can see it. Stop your fucking whining and do something about it if you don't like it.

30. So, do you prefer the Cheney/Bush method of disclosure?
I only see two alternatives, post the information or don't post it but if you know of a third way, please share it with us.

By posting it, anyone can check the math, so if you truly love the administration, giving them credit for their transparency would seem to be a logical extension.

"...New Disclosures

Late yesterday, Geithner’s office put hundreds of pages about the fund on the department’s Web site. They did not include documents describing the guaranteed assets.

Last fall, the Federal Reserve declined to identify the recipients of about $2 trillion in emergency loans from U.S. taxpayers or the assets the central bank is accepting as collateral.

Fed Is Sued

Bloomberg News asked for details of the lending on May 21 and filed a federal lawsuit against the Fed Nov. 7 seeking to force disclosure. The loans were made under the terms of what became 11 programs in the midst of the biggest financial crisis since the Great Depression. Arguments in the suit may be heard by a judge as soon as next month, according to the court docket.

Bloomberg filed a FOIA request yesterday for the list of what was covered by the Citigroup and Bank of America guarantees. Bloomberg asked for records on the fees paid by banks to the government, which securities were rejected for guarantees, as well as any contracts for data services and experts to assess the value of the securities..."
