Here are the 4 women and one man that might help us make a difference in the Senate
http://www.senate.gov/legislative/LIS/roll_call_lists/roll_call_vote_cfm.cfm?congress=111&session=1&vote=00014#position

This is the senate vote for the Equal Pay Act (ie Lily Ledbetter). All of the democrats including Lieberman voted for it. All of the republicans except 5 voted against. Ironically 4 of the 5 republicans that supported the bill were the women of the Senate - Kay Bailey Hutchison of TX, Lisa Murkowski of AK and Olympia Snowe & Susan Collins of ME. Also supporting us was Arlen Specter who tends to run moderate and will have a touch re-election in a state that is turning into a strong blue state.

These 5 senators could make the difference between getting the job done and dealing with filibusters ESPECIALLY when it comes to equality for women including choice. Snowe & Collins are both 100% Naral rating. Hutchinson & Murkowski have sometimes does the pro-choice thing (although neither above 20% and KBH was 0% in 2007). Specter also has a strong rating with NARAL.

We need to put the pressure on these 5 in hopes that they'll wield their new found power of being the tipping point between the democrats who want to avoid a filibuster and the republicans who want to stimy progress.

This is NOT supporting any of these republicans as a candidate but we should keep the pressure with letter writing on them in hopes that they can help make the difference with a successful congressional term instead of one filled with roadblocks & political landmines.

2. I can't imagie Hutchinson and Murkowski would help us much
but Collins and Snowe seem not totally crazy and I think Specter knows he will be in for the fight of his life in 2010 both from a primary challenge and against a Dem in the general.

3. I think Snowe, Collins and Specter might be the best of the 3
but there is still hope with Hutchison and Murkowski from time to time.

And another longshot is Voinovich. The guy is retiring so he probably doesn't give a rat's ass anymore how he votes. He may make the next 2 years as a giant "FUCK YOU" to the republican party that ruined his state of Ohio

6. Oh, Spector will help. He needs to keep his job and Pa is really blue these days.
Snowe and Collins are very moderate and will help to.

4. I've been a fan, of sorts, of Snowe for a while now.
I often see her name listed in crossover votes on issues that are important to me.

7. I expect if Rush is succesful in his takeover of the party
Collins and Snowe will literally walk across the aisle and not return to the other side.

I don't always agree with her, but as far as Republican women go, she is definitely the anti-Sarah.

I might also add that - surprisingly - Don Young voted for it in the House, as well. Too, also.
