And now, a little something for the ladies
President Obama has signed the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Restoration Act. Less than two weeks into his presidency, and President Obama has done more for American women than Bush did in eight, though that should surprise no one here.

I spent much of my childhood in a family headed by a single woman, as did our president. He really gets it where the Republicans do not: legislation supporting equal rights for women in the workplace is pro-family legislation.

I salute our President, the Democratic majorities in both houses of Congress, and Lilly Ledbetter, who is a real American hero.

1. The payroll injustices to women will extend many years into the future......
They will apply for their Social Security - and other retirements - based on their lifetime earnings and - you guessed it - they will be screwed again.

More legislation is needed for these women - and their name is millions - such as a credit like military personnel got whose military pay was substandard when calculating lifetime earnings on which the SS check is based. I received such a credit, thankfully, or I would be getting even less than I am getting now.

4. And it's not just women
I've taken the past four years off to raise my kids.

5. Yep. Those years will not be counted for earnings. I suggest a home self-employed job.
I went through Vocational Rehab with the VA and those 4 years were not counted for earnings because there weren't any earnings.

The Social Security earnings formula needs to be looked at for all workers.

2. That helps anybody suing for pay discrimination
It allows anybody to sue based on when they discovered they were being discriminated against, instead of the first 6 months of employment like the dumbass SCOTUS ruled. It's a victory for all working people really.
