When the pollster calls you....
Edited on Wed Sep-15-04 11:11 AM by Ernesto
Is it improper to ask them who is paying for their time? I don't think so. However, I have been hung up on twice now for asking that simple question. Both times, times the questioner became angry with me. Hell, I didn't call them: They called me!... Anyway, I'm telling nobody anything unless they define themselves...... Maybe this is reason not to put too much faith in some of the reported poll results.

1. You contaminated yourself
From a pollsters perception, you wanting to know who sponsored the poll makes your answers suspect, so they just dump you. If the poll was sponsored by the Dems and you are a Rep, then that might make you answer more negatively.

The caller probably became angry because you were their first connect in 20 tries and then you have to be disqualified based on your question. The caller doesn't care about the ideology of the sponsor, they just know that they have to get X responses in order to get paid for the evening.

2. how do you get called?
I've lived in 4 states, two countries, and have been in my current residence
for 4 yrs. I have NEVER, not once EVER been polled by ANYONE. Closest I've
gotten was a consumer survey.

I am registered 'no affiliation' for voting. Mebbee that's it. I've also only
been called for jury duty just once (a week AFTER I left the country for
4 yrs).

But, to answer your question; I don't think it's out of line to inquire who
is conducting the poll, and they certainly shouldn't get MAD about it.
How do you get accurate poll data if you're a d*ck to your pollees?

Bigby

5. Hee! speaking of "not telling people"
we have been doing canvassing in our neighborhood and asking people how they thought they were going to vote in the fall. (Clearly identifying ourselves as Democrats). More than once, people have said, "Well, that's really a private thing." I say, "Oh that's fine. Would you care for a sheet with some detailed information about our Democratic candidates in the countywide races?" They say, "Uh, no thank you."

HELLO! So, with that statement, you just TOLD me that you already have your mind made up, and how you're going to vote! Hahahahahaha! So much for "privacy."

6. this was on the polling instructions I had
the instructions, if asked to indentify the source of the poll, say to tell them that you'll tell them after the survey is done because it would skew the results. I had one person bitch and moan, even after the explaination, so I just said
"well, the poll is being conducted by the Minnesota DFL, but now you're ineligible. Goodbye!"
