Write off "Morning Joe" for a while. Let's see what happens on Tweety and Shuster's shows.
MJ has jumped some kind of shark as of this am. Mika Mouse was terrified after her interview with Big Bad Barbara Boxer last week. Now Joe is back and they are scared sh*tless that there really will be a stimulus plan, it will work and Obama's philosophy will be further advanced. Screw 'em.

I'll be curious to see if Tweety and Shuster will follow suit. I'll think we'll be safe with KO and Rachel. Still, we gotta keep them on their toes.

1. This morning's show was a stunner, even by Joe's low standards
They're running scared. I had to keep checking to make sure I wasn't tuned in to Fox News. The entire show was a steady stream of Republicans bashing Obama's plan and saying Republicans don't have enough say.

Joe's 15 minutes are up. This show, while never truly worthwhile before, is not TOTALLY worthless. Unless you're a Republican, then it's like porn.

2. I don't agree with the way they are railing on the
"welfare" part of the bill, but I also don't agree with all this bullshit that was put in it like money for STD prevention, smoking cessation programs, etc. That shit should not be in this bill. They could use that money toward more green energy projects, and infrastructure. The House tried to squeeze all these programs in a bill that had no place being there. Hopefully they will take some of that crap out. I really do think they way these assholes on Morning Joe bitch about "welfare" programs is a fucking disgrace. They should be ashamed of themselves! Fuck you Mika! You don't know shit!

5. jumped the shark? I think that happened a LONG, LONG time ago
Edited on Mon Feb-02-09 09:11 AM by ErinBerin84
I stopped watching Morning Joe, and it's been great for my health. Every now and then I put in 10 minutes and it's more than enough. I think that Tweety is probably more along the lines of the Morning Joe crowd when it comes to the stimulus, while Shuster is probably more in favor of it.

I refuse to watch MSNBC, haven't done so in almost a year. Plenty of better places to get the news.

10. So who do you watch?
CNN is neocon lite.
FOX is neocon goth.
ABC is broadcast secret neocon.
CBS is unrecognizable.

I watch MSNBC to keep Keith and Rachel going.

12. Mainly C-Span and PBS.
Also some CNN and some FOX (to see what the right is up to). But I get most of my news from foreign sources (the advantages of speaking more than one language).

As for MSNBC, they behaved disgracefully IMO during the primaries. Matthews is a sexist creep and totally unprofessional with his "tingling leg". But I stopped watching them altogether after Olbermann's 9 minute diatribe against Hillary over what Gerry Ferraro had said. I haven't watched them since then and I don't miss them at all. I'm sorry Rachel is on that network because I would have liked to watch her program once in a while.

I'll continute to support MSNBC because they carry these strong voices. It may surprise you but some of us appreciated the tongue lashing that Keith gave Hillary back then. It was well deserved and then some.

19. It may have been "deserved" to Obama supporters,
but not to those of us who supported Hillary. Many of us stopped watching that network at the time. I still refuse to watch it and have never cared for Olbermann and his bombastic style anyway. During the primaries MSNBC was in the tank for Obama and didn't even bother pretending to be objective and neutral. Therefore, it doesn't deserve to be called a "news" network, it's more like a collection of pundits.

25. I hate his bombastic style too but. . .
Ferraro was out of line. What she said was indefensible, as evidenced by the fact that Hillary did not even try to defend her.

Things get heated during elections. We all need to bury the hatchet. If we can't be "bipartisan" within our own friggin' party, how are we ever going to get others to join us in trying to fix things? I know we'll never get the republicans but there is still a mushy middle that can come our way for a generation if we tell them what we are about instead of dishing each other.

If we don't, if we stop trying, it is over for this country. The GOP will turn us into a 3rd world, two tier system in short order.

28. There are certain things I will never forget.
Suffice it to say that the DNC will never get a dime from me again.

As for Ferraro, I understood what she tried to say. I had a conversation with a couple of AA coworkers and some AA friends and they also got it. What she meant was that just as no one should be discriminated due to their race or gender, neither should they jump ahead of the bus due precisely to those characteristics. She meant that if Obama hadn't been AA the party leaders would have told him to wait another election cycle considering his very thin record. She may not have been very PC and not expressed herself as clearly as she should, but there was a lot of truth in her remarks. Of course, in this country we can never have an honest discussion on race without someone crying racism. Ferraro has been very vocal for decades about civil rights and women's rights, it's a shame that comments made during an interview given to a small newspaper were distorted from the true meaning of her words.

Regardless, it was Ferraro who made the comments. Olbermann had no business attacking Hillary for 9 minutes over what Gerry had said. After hearing his diatribe I switched channels and never went back.

29. I think you are giving Ferraro too much credit
I will agree with you that she was saying Obama got where he was because he was black but to say she was really saying he should wait his turn is rich. Gerry Ferraro telling Obama to get to the back of the line? That part is added to what she said is a way to try and excuse her breathtaking hypocricy.

If you are going to say Obama got where he was because he is black, you have to admit Gerry and Hillary got where they are because they are women. And, I mean really, if you are going to beat this horse to death, Hillary got where she is because she is a woman married to a former president of the US. And Gerry, she was about Obama's age and her only experience was less than 3 terms in the House. Oh, wait, yeah, and she was president of the Queen County Women's Bar Association or some such tripe. I can assure you there were many ppl who said she should have waited her turn and she was only named VP because she was a woman.

It wasn't the message so much as the message coming from THAT messenger and for that candidate.

You'd have to be an idiot to say his race didn't play a part. It got him noticed. But, after that, you'd have to be an idiot to say he didn't take it own his own.

I thought for a long time there were things I would never forget or forgive, but since Obama was willing to bury the hatchet I figured I would too. I hope Hillary's supporters come around too.

Gerry did Hillary a disservice. Plus, Keith said that he held back on Hillary believe it or not . It's just hard to believe that Fox was acceptable and Keith is banned forever because he dared to criticize Hillary (which he's gotten over), but whatever floats your boat). Tweety is an asshole though, I'll agree with that. But the idea that "journalism died in 2008" (per Hannity) just because of Hillary is kind of laughable. Not saying it hasn't been dead for a while, but because of the primaries? Guess we'll have to agree to disagree.

21. I agree with you.....
MSNBC sucks! They are becoming a joke, they call it the FOX news of the dem party. Let's face it, it's not news, just entertainment!

CNN is okay, but geez, can they have anyone else but Wolf?

I prefer, Newshour with Jim Lehrer, This week in Washington, Charlie Rose, Amy Goodman--Democracy Now, McLauglin, and Nightly Business for the financial markets.

The pundit shows have such an obvious agenda; to create conflict and division for ratings. They think people are stupid, and need to be told how to think.

The most detestable is Chris Matthews, who was a big cheerleader for the war/Bush. He will swing whichever way the political winds blow....total scum.......OMG, I heard he plans to run for office, I guess he would fit right in with the Washington establishment.

27. You said it.
As much as I disagree with Hannity on almost everything, he was right in one respect. He said that 2008 was the year that journalism died and I agree. When I remember the lopsided crap that the media spewed during the long primary it angers me once again. They had decided who was their candidate of choice and they didn't even bother to disguise it. It was frankly astonishing to see.

As for Tweety, he's the #1 jerk in that network and an embarrassment. I remember how uncomfortable Russert seemed to be around him during the NBC debates. To think that he entertained the idea of running for the senate in PA. Yuck!!!!

:-(

33. Yes, the primary coverage was horrid
Hillary got away with murder and they trashed Obama at every step treating him like an uppity black man. Didn't he know his place? Well, the media sure showed him!

Meanwhile, Hillary and Bill were both treated like the King and Queen of the world. They could do no wrong. They never saw, or would never admit, what was really happening.

very vicious and showed little or no objectivity during the primaries. It was quite shocking.

Just as long as you take it for what it is, and shape your own analysis, based on news/facts, not punditry!

13. Shuster is excellent, IMO. He holds the pukes' feet to the fire on many issues,
and he never hesitates to jump right down their throats when they are starting to spout loads of steamy BS. I think it's great he has his own platform. His enthusiasm during the inauguration was virtually impossible to contain, he was like a school kid who got about a hundred extra cookies in his lunch bag.

when he first took over for Gregory he was dreadful. I stopped watching. The last few weeks though he's been great. He's the only one out there asking the questions and he's got the answers ("that's completely unfair, they took the birth control stuff out long ago, you can't keep harping on that").

Try it. I'm beginning to think when he first started on 1600 he was stuck with Gregory's writers but no longer.
