Move to trim Obama's middle class tax cut trimmed in stimulus bill
I caught this little bit in an article from the NYT they're trying to cut back Obama's proposed middle class tax cuts in the stimulus bill.

But the competing bills now reflect substantially different approaches. The House puts greater emphasis on helping states and localities avoid wide-scale cuts in services and layoffs of public employees. The Senate cut $40 billion of that aid from its bill, which is expected to be approved Tuesday.

The Senate plan, reached in an agreement late Friday between Democrats and three moderate Republicans, focuses somewhat more heavily on tax cuts, provides far less generous health care subsidies for the unemployed and lowers a proposed increase in food stamps.

To help allay Republican concerns about the cost, the Senate proposal even scales back President Obama’s signature middle-class tax cut. The Senate plan also creates new tax incentives to encourage Americans to buy homes and cars within the next year.

Republicans are all for tax cut as long as they go to--you know--the "right" people. No doubt some Democrats will fall all overthemselves to comply.

8. Do you have a link for this analysis?

I looked on Moody's site but I couldn't find it. I would like to send it to the panelists on This Week. If these numbers are correct then we are not "flying blind" as folks are saying. That's beginning to sound like a cover for "We know how to stimulate the economy but have painted ourselves into a corner ideologically."

3. Yep, I mean...
people like us don't pay taxes anyway...why should we get a tax cut? That's just a hand-out. :sarcasm:

The Republicans would be thrilled if this bill was full of nothing but tax cuts for the rich, hand outs for big business, and military spending.

4. I would gladly give back my middle class taxcut IF the money for states was restored
as well as the food stamp money. But they are not going to restore that money, then I want my middle class taxcut.

5. as a single, middle-class taxpayer w no children, I'm getting pessimistic
about receiving any benefit at all from this package. I don't have a house in foreclosure (gee, I DIDN'T try to borrow more than I could repay) or own any house at all.

I heard something about "working families" getting a $1000 rebate. I wasn't looking for cash, but if that's the way it's going to be, will a single person with no family get even this?

7. What good are the tax cuts going to do if no one has a job?
What are they going to do when the Dept. of HHS gets hit with long lines of the unemployed waiting to apply for food stamps?

If no one is working, who can buy a new vehicle or house?

I suppose that if the unemployed has no food, no medical care, no home, then maybe they should open a new department...F&BSD. Funeral & Burial Services Department.

Just sayin'.
