How about Corzine as Commerce Secretary? |
|
I think he would be a good fit there with his business background.

2. He spent a S**t-load of money for the job of Governor in NJ |
|
I doubt he wants to give it up for a 2nd tier Cabinet post.

3. His financial experience is too closely tied to Wall Street |
|
We already have enough 'street vampires infesting important economic positions in the Obama administration.

4. Major advantage to NJ is I think that Codey becomes acting governor again |
|

and I think he is an unbeatable candidaet later this year - while Corzine could lose to Christie. The drawback is that there may well be vetting issues.

7. As a resident of New Jersey I could go for that. but I doubt it will happen. |

Frankly the man's been a disappointment. He was touted as some sort of financial wiz and the state's books look worse than ever.
Despite his megabucks, he faces a hard re-election campaign in this rather Blue state. I was standing with a bunch of racegoers after this year's Haskell at Monmouth Park when Corzine's helicopter took off. People were jeering "Fasten your seatbelt, Asshole" as the chopper took off. Admittedly, the opinions of sports fans after a hot afternoon at the track and probably too many beers should not be taken as a scientific survey but they probably express the opinions of many New Jerseyites.
If chosen for Commerce Secretary, his replacement, Richard Codey, who's had to step in as acting Governor twice in the past few years is very well liked. It may be a bit of a stretch but even my racing fan focus group liked Codey. They couldn't remember his name but knew him as "That guy who took over after that gay guy quit." The Democrats would easily continue to hold the Governor's seat.
I doubt though if he could pass the vet. There's an issue, I believe, with gifts given to an ex girlfriend who was also a union official. Also, the Republicans would have a field day with a Commerce Secretary who's best known exploit as Governor of New Jersey was getting into a car crash while racing down the Garden State Parkway and almost getting killed because he did not buckle his seat belt.
