How can ANYONE in the military still support Bush? |
|
For some irrational reason, most in the military have supported the Republican party for the last 30 or 40 years. The probable reason is that the GOP has a better propaganda machine than the Dems.
Nonetheless, Bush is currently squandering the lives and limbs of brave, patriotic Americans for no worthwhile reason. He has cut military benefits in the areas of combat pay, assistance to military families and veteran's health care. He has changed the rules for guardsmen and reservists, turning them into virtual prisoners who can't go home when their time is up, or their tours of duty have ended.
He's created a draft without calling it one. Guess what will happen if he wins of steals it in Nov. How can anyone wearing the uniform of our country back this man who has disgraced and discredited our country in the eyes of the entire world?

2. He clearly feels scorn for those in the military |

My worst fear is that my son will be drafted. By playing it fast and loose with the Genena Conventions, Bush has made it unsafe for anyone in service. I wonder if the fools who say the rape, torture, and murder that took place in Abu Grahib is just fraternity stuff when it's their children who are being raped and beaten to death?
Bush wouldn't care because the children of the people like him - the " haves and the have mores, " the elite, his base - won't be in that position. Their daddy's friends will find a way to keep them safe and comfortable just like they did during the Vietnam war. It will be smooth sailing and pure profit for them.
Btw, I read on BuzzFlash that Edwards said there will be no draft if he and Kerry are elected. Has Bush made that promise?

3. Whenever this topic comes up in conversation, |
|
I always ask those pro-Bush, "What in the Hell are we doing over there now?" since we've removed Saddam. Almost always they sputter and have no answer, but I love the look on their face when first confronted with the question. After a minute, they usually come up with the democracy crap for Iraq and I say "look me in the eye and tell me Bush gives a shit about the Iraqis" - usually end of conversation.

4. They don't call 'em Grunts for nothing |
|
I guess it's because they just hold faith in those that send them to fight and trust in them implicitly.

I knew I had to follow orders, but I also knew who had my best interest at heart at election time. The term "grunt" doesn't mean stupid. None of us ever took offense at the term.
P.S. Welcome to DU.

No disrespect intended.
I was trying to imply that many just follow orders blindly and don't question things.
