Into The Arms Of Our Lovely First Ladies
Arms. Who would have guessed that in the middle of an economic collapse while we’re engaged in two wars and the ecology in jeopardy, anybody would even think to make an issue about a woman’s arms. But reporting every minute detail of the President and his family has been going on since “Lady Washington” went shopping for “new fashioned” shoes as she traveled to her new home in New York, at 58 years old. Mrs. Lincoln, as well, was criticized at every turn, for everything from her expensive clothing to her “loud and unrefined” nature, by a new generation of female journalists whom she dubbed the “vampyre press.”

Sadly, that tradition hasn’t changed either, as the harshest critics of Mrs. Obama’s arms have come from women who have written of her arms with headlines that shout “call to arms”, “right to bare arms”, and the unbelievable “buff-arm fetish”.

Mary Schmich of the Chicago Tribune, may as well have told Michelle to “lay back and enjoy it” by saying “any famous woman who bares her arms in front of the U. S. Congress, on television, in winter, may as well have texted an invitation to the nation to discuss her biceps.”

13. It said the constitution gives us the right to bare arms
I thought it was funny. I guess the poster is no longer with us. Oh well.

3. I'm reminded of A Few Good Men...
Kaffee: Do you have an answer to the question, Colonel?

Col. Jessep: Absolutely. My answer is I don't have the first damn clue. Maybe he was an early riser and liked to pack in the morning. And maybe he didn't have any friends. I'm an educated man, but I'm afraid I can't speak intelligently about the travel habits of William Santiago. What I do know is that he was set to leave the base at 0600. Now, are these the questions I was really called here to answer? Phone calls and foot lockers? Please tell me that you have something more, Lieutenant. These two Marines are on trial for their lives. Please tell me their lawyer hasn't pinned their hopes to a phone bill.

4. I remember the beautiful Jackie Kennedy
being constantly criticized for her "floor mop" hairdo. I remember, too, Hillary Clinton being criticized for one hairdo or another. Why does this happen? What's wrong with people? They sound like a chattering "in-crowd" of high school girls.

5. I'll take deserved heat for saying so
but my fervent wish for President Obama's first "official" SOTU next year is that the First Lady shows up wearing nothing at all. Then we'll see how many Congresscritters want to waste time Twittering during the speech...

7. I'll Take the Heat Right Along with You
and wish the same. Or better yet, why doesn't Mrs. Obama take one of those arms upside someone's head.

23. One small prob -
the Repukes wouldn't hear a WORD the President said! For that matter, a lot of the Democrats wouldn't either - I sure as hell wouldn't be paying attention. Sorry, Mr. President, but she's a LOT better-looking than you.
And as to Michelle taking "one of those arms upside someone's head", she'd need to be in Angela Bassett's weight class - that woman's arms are SCARY muscular. That's the only prob I had with her in "What's Love Got To Do With It?" - with arms like that, Tina Turner coulda beat the living holy shit ouuta Ike if he so much as raised a hand...

But there sure are a lot of women who insist we all get stuffed into business suits too.

12. Each woman needs to find her own style.
Michelle obviously has.

Mrs. Biden often wears suits and looks good.

She looked great in that aqua ensemble, IMHO, and it was a non-stuffy suit. Talk about color--that aqua looked beautiful on my TV.

16. Looks better in a dress
She's a perfect example of a gorgeous woman getting stuffed into a business suit to prove she's "professional". To hell with that noise.

But I still like the aqua. I don't see it as a real business suit--not in that color.:)

14. Nice pics of the First Ladies.
Of course there's nothing wrong with bare arms, but like everything else in life, there's a place and time for them. No one questions that Michelle doesn't have nicely toned arms and the right to wear whatever she pleases, they just wonder why be constantly seen in sleeveless dresses in the middle of winter in DC. That's all.......

15. Maybe she should put a scarf over her head too
Why let her face be seen in the middle of winter when it would be much warmer if she'd cover it up.

:eyes:

They're just arms. What is your major malfunction with frigging ARMS?

I've read plenty of posts on various blogs where people questioned why she seems to prefer sleeveless dresses in winter. Me, I couldn't care less.

30. Plenty of PUMAs and right wing nuts
I've read those blogs too.

I did put up a page to focus on Hillary and Susan Rice. I think Hillary is just doing basic intros right now. As soon as she gets into some meat, I'll write more about her too. I think I want to focus on what the women in this Administration are doing, with or without sleeves.

32. She's in the ME today
I'm going to write something because she said this about children... this is where I put my hope in Hillary..

"As I said in my remarks, to me, this is about what happens to the children in Gaza and the West Bank. I got into politics because I care deeply about what happens to children. I could never have imagined that I’d be sitting here as the United States Secretary of State. My work has always been about how to give children a better chance to live up to their God-given potential.

A child in Gaza has the same right as a child anywhere in the world to a good education, to health care, and to a better future. Parents in the West Bank have the same right as parents anywhere in the world to a good job, to housing, to a better opportunity for their children.

That is what motivates me, and I believe that will be the basis on which we discuss how best to realize the goal of a two-state solution, a comprehensive peace, and a better future for Israeli and Palestinian children."

But, as I said before, she can wear whatever she wants. Her body, her arms, it's a free world.

We didn't question her choice of pants suits just her choice of designers.

17. Sheesh. People are actually criticizing her for baring her arms?
It is childish, petty and, most of all, DISHONEST to do so because it's nothing mroe than looking for any excuse to cut her down. It is PAINFULLY transparent and fools nobody.
