The President Addresses the "Is he doing too much?" notion.
Edited on Tue Mar-10-09 10:00 AM by Clio the Leo
Speaking at the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce Tuesday, Obama pushed back hard on suggestions that his administration is trying to tackle too many issues in the midst of an historic economic collapse.

“I know there are some who believe we can only handle one challenge at a time,” Obama said. “They forget that Lincoln helped lay down the transcontinental railroad, passed the Homestead Act, and created the National Academy of Sciences in the midst of Civil War. Likewise, President Roosevelt didn’t have the luxury of choosing between ending a depression and fighting a war.”

9. I'm convinced that's why
people are so confused by it. For the last 8 years we had a barely functioning moron in the Oval Office who could barely tie his shoes. We got used to the fact that we'd be lucky if one thing was being looked at and hopefully acted on. Shrub was not able to multitask in any way shape or form and now that Obama is in office lots of people expected him to only do as much.

Remember shurbbos, "it's hard work... it's hard" whining of a few years ago? I think we could have trained a chimp to do as well or better in that office.

10. The joke here in DC was that Bill Clinton could watch ESPN, C-Span, CNN, do...
Edited on Tue Mar-10-09 10:28 AM by Captain Hilts
the NYT crossword puzzle, talk to a congressman on the phone and get a blowjob all at once.

GWB couldn't do any two of these at once.

Like all good humor there is a strong element of truth in this.

2. One of the many reasons I rarely watch TV news channels. Every side manipulates the media
Edited on Tue Mar-10-09 10:02 AM by GarbagemanLB
to form daily narratives, and this is just one of them. It's like manipulating small children.

Is it seriously a problem expecting our President to chew gum and walk at the same time? Our media is a fucking joke.

5. I'm usually pretty easy on the press......
... they have a job to do and it's not often pretty.

But they actually chose, this moring, to TALK about whether he was doing to much rather than broadcast his speech to the Hispanic Council.

SHAMEFUL!!!!

8. It's a fair question.
Not because of the president, but because of congress. Obama can multi-task sure, he is an executive decision maker. Congress on the other hand, who he has to work with to get things done, them I'm not so sure about. It's not an easy thing at all to get all of those reps and senators to stop bickering amongst themselves, figure out what they want to do and go do it. Weak leadership in both parties doesn't help matters much either.

Still, I'd rather see him stretch and try to get done what he can, than play it safe and comfortable, aiming low because of the risks.

12. MSM has stooped to new lows with this one
SINCE WHEN is a president doing to much?????
give me a freaking break.
You mean you liked it better when Bush took a vacation on an average of 1 out of 4 days (or more)?

I was watching MSNBC this mid-morning (i could only stand it for a few minutes).
They were literally talking over the president while carrying the live feed for his speech this morning.
Did it ever occur to them to actually COVER what the president says...you know cuz you have the LIVE FEED available...instead of listening to themselves talk?
Of course not, they don't really give a crap about actually covering him, they just want to make up their own BS instead.

Why? Either they like making sh*t up, or they don't really want the info to get out. -- or both.
i AM beginning to think they do care more about ideology than just ratings. With such a popular president, why would you not cover him accurately?
Only if you have an agenda.

Anyway, that's my 2 cents, fwiw

14. And then they CUT AWAY FROM HIM to talk about Rhianna and Chris Brown!
Edited on Tue Mar-10-09 11:01 AM by Clio the Leo
Seriously, if I WANTED TMZ .... I'd CHECK OUT TMZ!!!!

Anyone know how to contact the network re: matters of what they're airing at any given time? This happened last week with Mrs. Bush and .... Gibbs press briefing ... they cut away from Gibbs so we could listen to a doctor talk his prognosis for A PRIVATE CITIZEN!!! (one so private, she didn't even want her children to attend the surgery.)

Fortunately, they cut BACK to Gibbs but I was desperately trying to find some way to email them and complain but all I could find was this...

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/10285339/

NONE of which helped me. I suppose I could have emailed Keith or Rachel, who would have at least been sympathetic lol.

16. i didn't even watch till then,
but of course I am not surprised.

Clearly they have their priorities screwed up.
I don't thin that story is unimportant, but they cover it in such a tabloid way..instead of regarding violence against women.

I mean the freaking POTUS is speaking. Shut the hell up!

20. "I have to ask the Republicans who are saying we are trying to do too much:
Are you the party of Americans can do anything? Or are you the party of NO? And if you are the Party of Americans can do anything, why don't you believe that we can face these multiple challenges at the same time?"

Nothing happened for the people of this country for 8 years. All boosh did was shovel money to the already rich and start an illegal and costly war.
