That, IMO, says far more about our president and his attitude towards kids with disabilities than a dumb comment on the Leno show.

What DUers don't get is that the state budget will deal with that distribution.
What the Pres. does regarding distribution of $$ is not the focus of people with disabilities.
What happens to the $$ when the state governments will be the political target of the disability community.
Broader attitude changes have been sought in regard to language and how we are viewed generally ongoing for the past 30+ years.
When the president is suddenly out there with it, he causes a stir. It may not matter to people who don't see it from our perspective, but when you are the clumsy "target" it does still leave a mark. He said he would disappoint us. I have been impressed more than disappointed. He's human. I believe he recognizes his mistakes and learns from them, but that doesn't mean I'm going to suddenly decide my feelings are not legitimate.

4. No one said anything in outrage when funding was cut. My son and all his friends suffered
from those cuts. Yes, they still have Special Olympics, but they no longer ski (too expensive), trips to participate in events have been cut to a bare minimum. They do not bowl as often or skate as often. (Those events require money for lanes or use of the rink). If it requires travel that includes staying overnight in a motel, too expensive. Some universities have moved venues to campuses during the summer so individuals can stay in dorms.
