2. i think Ed has a solid media 'game plan'...
he isn't afraid to have guests from either side; he doesn't let much BS get past him, engaging in discussion; he knows that he benefits when he displays 'attitude'; he prepares himself for serious discussions...

his 'populist' image that he promotes might be as much showbiz as philosophy, but i will give him credit...he knows how to portray the issues of the 'little guy'...an aspect of his show that will become increasingly popular...

i loved it the other day when he addressed being referred to as "the left's rush limbaugh" - instead of pointing out the obvious differences in stations, listener numbers, etc....Ed basically said "I'm no drug addict felon."....

love KO and Rachel...and Cenk and Thom...all of them represent and attack with intelligence and definite amounts of intellectualism...but Ed might be the gut-puncher the Left needs...

3. I feel greatly different than you do.
I find Ed Schultz to be the most balance voice on the Left. I might even go light a candle to the Ed Shultz TV Show to emerge.

Ed is for Ed. Nice guy (although he did Call Randi Rhodes a slut several times, on air), Ed is like a semi jolly uninformed windsock. For example, he thought Bernie Kerik was a good choice for Homeland Security director.

7. I am with you.
I have problems with Ed. He use to be o Air America but he irritated me. He had a tendency to be a lot snotty. Was heading in the direction of the neo cons. We lefties didn't quite get the picture. I would rather have the guy from The West Wing. He tore a few new posterior holes last week. One was my favorite jerk Buchanan

15. Reading just the subject line of a thread is like judging a book
only by it's cover. Sometimes you need to read beyond that and actually read the content in the post.

11. Yes-MSNBC definitely needs one more white talk show host-there can never be too many
I like MSNBC, but it's a virtual plantation from 5 pm to 9 am.

I can't for the life of me figure out why they can't bother to hire a black host for any of their talk shows. It makes no sense.

Jeez.

I'll bet if MSNBC's entire primetime lineup was made up only of shows with black hosts, someone would wonder what up with that.

14. Maybe because the only "black guy" they ever have on their shows
is Ron "Cross Eyed Mary" Christie? And that would defeat the whole purpose of "The Only Evening News Lineup Not Dominated by Right Wing Tools".

Actually they do have Gene Robinson as a guest on Hardball & Keith's show, but he doesn't seem like he would have the "anchor/host" personality to carry an hour long show.

Montel Williams is supposedly starting a show on What's Left of Air America. That probably would mean he wouldn't be available for another TV show, but I think he would be a great choice (assuming his new association with AAR is an indicator of his politics.)

The Chuck D show? Personally, I'd love to see it, but I'm not sure MSNBC would go for it. It would be priceless just to hear the reactions from O'Reilly, Hannity, and Mush.

21. Ron Christie, Gene Robinson, Montel Williams and Chuck D are not the only black people available or
qualified to host a show on MSNBC

And while Gene Robinson is very good, he is a guest, not a host. That's the problem. Every now and then a black person is trotted out to answer questions and give their opinions about whatever the host has decided to talk about that day, and then they're trotted right back out after one segment while the host continues on to the next thing. And if I have to watch another group of white people sitting around talking about whether racism really exists and whether black people have a right to be offended by it and whether white people are being picked on when black people mention they are offended by it - all guided by a white host who hasn't even bothered to include a black person in the conversation - I may throw my shoe through the television. But, beyond that, a black host can talk about anything that a white host can talk about - the economy, politics, financial institutions, culture, housing, education - and do it just as well.

But there is not a single show with a black host - and some of the shows (Morning Joe, for example) just barely give any airtime to black guests, while guests like Pat Buchanan park themselves in front of the camera from sunup to sundown spouting their backward, bigoted views to the delight and amusement of their hosts without any contradiction or challenge from anyone who doesn't look like them.

It's interesting - these networks drag all manner of white men out of obscurity and give them shows, but when someone suggests that maybe just one of these numerous shows could be hosted by a black person, suddenly, it becomes a requirement that the potential black host be either already famous, already have their own show, or have some other remarkable qualities that aren't required of the white hosts and guest - and while I don't see any white comedians being given news shows to host, for some reason, people think that it's perfectly ok to stick a black comedian in the mix, as if all black people are fungible ("He's black, he has a show, so what are you complaining about?").

For those who are having trouble coming up with any black people who could host a show, here are some suggestions - off the top of my head:

Joe Madison - Host of "The Black Eagle" on XM radio
Bev Smith
Kojo Nnamdi
Susan Taylor
Earl Graves, Jr.
Tom Joyner
George Curry
Warren Ballentine
Hazel Trice Edney
Carlos Watson
Al Sharpton
Michelle Bernard
Michael Baisden
Colbert King

on WAMU-FM 88.5 out of DC and he would make a great host on a national level also.

22. No deal - the two have nothing to do with each other.
I'm talking about a host for an MSNBC show, not a cabinet appointment.

And, in fact, MSNBC already has an openly gay host, so I really don't understand your point or what it has to do with my post.

Think. If you could get Olberman to do a show, Keith, Rachel, and Ed would make a very formidable talk radio package.
