The Daily Howler was once a great website exposing right-wing misinformation in the mainstream media, but of late it seems more consumed with beating up on Olbermann. Most the criticizms are for segments on Countdown that Olbermann himself admits are meant to be comic or satiric. Who the fuck cares anything about me? I don't know why you've concluded that I'm jealous here. The only thing I can guess is that it's a stupid attack meant to marginalize what I said without actually responding to it.

So why don't you respond to Somerby's point today about Olbermann? Why can't Sarah be bad enough just on the basis of her words and her actions? Somerby (and myself) don't have any problem calling her a liar or a demogogue, because she's plainly that. Why doesn't Olbermann just stick to that? Why does he continue to sexualize her in order to demean her? Why can Somerby point to example after example of how Olberman does this?

Pretend (just pretend) it had been Bill O'Reilly saying exactly the same thing about Palin. Or saying the things Olbermann said about Clinton. Could O'Reilly have talked about "going into a room with Hillary Clinton and only one coming out" and gotten away with it, even defended on Democratic Underground? I hardly think so.

10. The point is there are a lot worse offenders than Olbermann

who Somerby could be spending his time on. Yet he continues to bash Olbermann (who admits that a lot of what he does is meant to be comedic, satirical and silly) as well as Rachel Maddow. Today's column is an example. He goes after Olbermann for a segment with the creator of the Family Guy. Obviously that segment was meant to be silly and humorous as the final segment of Countdown usually is but Somerby either is so blinded by his hatred of Olbermann or purposely pretends he doesn't get so he can take a whack at Olbermann.
The Daily Howler use to be a must read but Somerby's obsession with Olbermann is destroying that. And despite what anyone personally thinks of Olbermann they would have to admit that there are much better targets out there for his ire. Morning Joe immediately comes to mind.

That's fine. But most of his critcizms of Olbermann (and Rachael Maddow) are to segments they themselves admit to being purposely humorous or funny. That's like criticizing John Stewart for being silly. Plus there are much worse targets out their, even on the left. And at a time when 90% of the misinformation in the MSM is coming from the right, why go after the 10% coming from the other direction.
The problem is is that Somerby was a Hillary Clinton supporter and thus is blinded by his vedetta against Olberman. He needs to move on and get back the great work that he use to do.
