Biden "not necessarily cured of his Oval Office fever"... he's "not ruling anything... out" for 2016
Edited on Sun Mar-29-09 08:58 AM by ClarkUSA
Like Mr. Cheney was, Mr. Biden is assumed to be in his last elected office. But friends of Mr. Biden — who has twice run for president — said he was not necessarily cured of his Oval Office fever. “I can’t believe that he won’t think about it,” Mr. Kaufman said, adding that Mr. Biden has “totally sublimated” any such thoughts for now.

The vice president will be 74 in 2016. “We’re not ruling anything in or out,” said Jay Carney, a spokesman for Mr. Biden.

This is the first on-the-record comment Team Biden has ever made regarding a run in 2016. It's notable that two sources close to
Joe (Mr. Kaufman was his longtime Senate chief-of-staff and now the sitting junior Senator from Delaware) are raising the possibility
that he might be a candidate. Testing the waters, anyone? ;)

1. If Biden plays a pivita role in foreign policy and Obama is elected to second term ...........
then I can see Biden running in 2016. Let's hope it turns out better than Al Gore's run.

3. That's true. He is also taking a part in leading the economic recovery.

Alot depends on how Americans feel about President Obama's tenure after two terms -- I am predicting two terms, given the
unpalatable GOP alternative ---> Palin, Jindal, Huckabee, Romney, Gingrich, etc.

5. Yup... that's a given. He seems very robust now and his mom is in great health, so...
I'm sure he's thinking the same thing as you.

6. Sounds good
I wish he were a few years younger, but I'd still like him to go for it, if he feels he wants to by then.

7. We should go with a young Democrat. His age would be a liability
Edited on Sun Mar-29-09 09:07 AM by ArchieStone1
21% told Pew during the summer that McCain was too old to be president. Murtha also said McCain was too old to be president. Biden is by far the better politician and has much better ideas, but being 74 would be a liability, IMO. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2008/04/16/murtha-says-mccain-too-ol_n_96978.html

8. Yet Reagan was very popular and won by a landslide.

Perception is key. McCain looked like everyone's grumpy old neighbor/uncle/grandpa. Biden looks and acts like a silver fox
who's beautiful wife and vigorous presence makes him look and act anything but elderly. If his health stays good, I predict
that Americans will feel differently in 2016.

Also, what do you expect Murtha to say about McCain during the election season? After all, Murtha is a Democrat. ;)

9. He does seem a lot younger then 66. I forget sometimes how old
he really is. But I really don't think he wants to run. I think they are just saying that to keep other Dems from getting caught up in who will run. To much jockeying for position too early when we have so much to be done.

11. Yeah, he does.

I am going by what his confidantes are saying... I doubt they'd be publicly stoking people's curiosity if there wasn't something
behind it. For example, Biden could easily just mention it to Hillary over their Tuesday lunches or deliberately spread private
whispers throughout the gossipmonger's den that is Capitol Hill.

12. No thanks
He'd be 78 at the end of the first term, plus he is opposed to equal rights for all. So we can do better.
