Poll question: What's happening here? |
|
The posts at Democratic Underground are increasingly becoming more and more negative toward the Obama Administration. Is it because...

1. We're just a maddeningly diverse group and everybody's got their own reason. |
|
Unlike the repukes who just fall into line and salute. This is both our glory and our downfall at the same time. However, I for one am going to give him more time. For one thing, I think he's smarter than I am...

3. I agree we are a diverse group, there is no doubt. But given how early it is in his presidency |
|
and all that he has accomplished, I have a hard time understanding some of the negativity that's being expressed here.

16. Everybody has their own hobby horse to ride. I know I have mine. |

It's pro choice, my sine qua non. But he's been super on choice and on LOTS of my other strong hobby horses so I am very happy.
I just think the DU community was so beat up from 8 years of Bush we haven't gotten over it. We still have PTSD and it manifests itself in some irrational anger sometimes...it's gonna take a little time...

Sadly, my ignore list is growing daily. I've simply had enough of their BS. They say nothing worthwhile. Since this is supposed to be a place to support Democratic politicians and our party I hope Skinner will do something about the negativity and downright nastiness soon.

24. I supported Obama strongly in the primaries after Biden was out. And also strongly defended |
|
his appointments and decisions up to the unveiling of Geithners Plan.
IMO, what's happening here is some can't grasp, for one reason or other, that Geithner's plan is simply propping up an economic system and class of investors that desperately needs to be restructured.

Now that the looming boogyman of a republican win in November is banished, some people remember that they are liberals, and notice that Obama is not.

9. Other...Unreasonable expectations. |
|
Some here think that all Obama had to do was appoint a lot of progressive people and change would come in days or weeks. But the right wing has been entrenched for 30 some years now and it ain't going to change that quick. Now if I were president I would have gone for the juggler and appointed Ralph Nader as Attorney General and Norm Chomsky as Treasury Secretary (or rather tried too) and would have probably been impeached in the first year of assaninated...But I think Obama is way smarter than I am so I will trust his judgment.

These are some of the things that some can't seem to get there mind around it is not as simple as that there are many in this government who are behind the scenes plotting and planning and are already off of there rockers for some of the choices he has made already. They are getting caught up in the MSM coverage and lies and their "Doing the same thing, the same way garbage" They complain about they don't see any changes then WHAT IN THE HELL ARE THEY COMPLAINING ABOUT! the problem with Repubs is there is too much change and they want the Pres to continue their policies.
The problems with Dems is that they want everything done on day one when we have some years to go here. We can't see and know what is going on in the background, we don't know who is angry because they aren't getting the same contracts they were getting,Some may be angry because they can't lobby in the same way on the issues as they have been doing for decades, they are getting angry overall because of the CHANGES that the President is implementing that they don't like. I believe that the president does want to make changes in some areas like DRUGS but he can't show his hand...

12. It's a mixture of several things. I have noticed that many people are attempting ......... |
|
to fight the primary season all over again - it's been getting worse since several puma/right-wing ro-pHillary sites have closed down.
Damn boomers spoiled their kids and the "I want it now generation" is not being satisfied by the pace of progress.
The MSM is proving that there is no liberal bias, big shock that a bunch of multi-billion dollar corporations are in the pockets of the right.
I also blame several Democrats in Congress who are already campaigning for their next election. We hold 58 seats and have to battle with our own party over votes for bills on the most basic of Democratic principles.

15. Folks are so used to having their hopes dashed, that they are on automatic pilot...... |
|
and lash out because that is what they have been doing for the past 8 years. Many know no other way to react. They have been conditioned more or less to suspect every move as being one against them, as was the case for so very long.
Also, those who expected the least out of President Obama, are commenting the most negatively, because their bottom-line is to be able to say on a daily basis....I told you so. Being right is important to them, because it makes them feel better about themselves and the insight that they believe they have.
Beyond that, many here are in election mode.....and are staying in the habit of attempting to influence others to not vote for President Obama. The problem is of course, election day is years away.

In some crucial policy areas Obama is following a corporatist/conservative path. This is very disheartening to many progressives (and DU claims to be a progressive board). This doesn't mean he is breaking campaign promises though - because he didn't run as a progressive.
