Where would conservatives go?
So you know how dejected liberals threatened after 2000 and 2004 to "move to Canada" to be in more ideologically friendly territory? I wasn't with that crowd, of course. I wasn't about to give up on this great nation of ours.

But that has long had me thinking: where would conservatives go if they wanted to escape this horrible SOCIALIST America, what with the 39 percent top rate and HEALTH CARE for all (assuming we ever get it)?

Iran? They'd love the theocracy, with a bona fide morality police to beat the crap out of non-believers! But the country worships the wrong god. So close...

Russia? It's got the oligarchy thing that conservatives love, plus a war-mongering leadership that dreams of empire. Too bad they don't speak American, or even use American letters in their alphabet!

Singapore? Unfettered capitalism, English as an official language, and a caning if you chew gum on the streets. Oh, and jail if you get caught being gay. It's conservative nirvana! Well, except that people are Asian. If only they'd be whiter.

Dubai? A playground for the rich, but with the oppressive hand of religion to stamp out all fun. Still the wrong god, though.

Any other suggestions?

1. Alaska! Then they'd secede.
Could happen if enough of them moved there and joined the AIP:

8. Darn it, you stole my answer!
And you have to be sure to pronounce it with a really hard "k" ... "AlasKa"

2. Ironically, a couple of people in those "line to see Palin" videos threatened to move to Canada...
...if Obama won.

Hope they're enjoying their socialized healthcare!

4. In truth, however, Israel seems to be breaking hard right...
So perhaps that's an option for them?

12. Please. These are folks who avoid large US cities because they're all "infested with the JOOZ".
Guess again.

16. Never!
Costa Rica has universal health care, no army, and is one of the most environmentally friendly nations on Earth. It's the tropical version of Scandinavia!

Seems to be the type of place where conservative "values" (stealing, killing, and destroying) are rewarded.

10. There is no other country they could "inner-tube" off to--
in the words of Che Bachman--

because this is the last free nation on the earth. (She says this here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OGn1ruk7Xcs --It's all quite mad if you'd like to listen.)

For that reason, I think they would head to the Rocky Mountains and become survivalists, after a fashion. It wouldn't be easy at first. The weak ones would be eaten by Jonah Goldberg, who would be eaten in turn by Rush Limbaugh, who would actually himself feed the Duggar family for a week, and then they'd commence to interbreeding. They'd develop a rich oral history about their prototypical hero/godman Gipper Reagan and worship the Wolverine. Occasionally, they would be sighted by area farmers, who would complain about violations of their livestock.

Then they would decide after a few months it was too much of a hassle, and go back to their homes.

11. I did threaten to leave if this last election was stolen
Weird thing though, I've realized that I still want to go, even though I'm very pleased with our new President, I find I'm still quite tired of my fellow countrymen. I want to be a Canuck. I ache to live a mere 150 miles north of where I am now. I think I'd like to live in Surrey or maybe even downtown Vancouver. That said, knowing I can makes it easier to stay for a while and maybe if I can get back into Seattle proper, the distaste for my fellow American will ease up.
