Poll question: Forget Palin & Jindal. Which GOP Celeb will we face in 2012
...because they need another Reagan. Yeah, that's it!

...but who??? Forget Fred Thompson - he's too old.

I can think of three:

Kelsey Grammer - When asked by Maxim magazine about his political ambitions, Grammer replied, "It's a notion I have about the future, to run for office, to do the world some good. Maybe in 15 years or so, there may be a run for office. But I don’t know what I’d run for."

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kelsey_Grammer

Ted Nugent - The recent author of "Ted, White, and Blue: The Nugent Manifesto" (and one rarely writes a political manifesto unless they're considering a run for something) who thinks the entire solution in Iraq is summed up thus: "Our failure has been not to Nagasaki them."

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ted_Nugent

Drew Carey - "I never thought I was a libertarian until I picked up Reason Magazine and realized I agree with everything they had printed." Carey, an ex-Marine, was a donor to the Ron Paul campaign, and is said do consider himself a libertarian- leaning conservative.

3. I had a feeling in '96 when she went "rogue"
She joined a competing tour and left the other 6 ladies on their own.

I was not shocked/surprised when I found out that she had joined the Bush Administration.

30. He might be the GOP's best chance for success.
He's L(l)ibertarian and well-liked by many (except vegetarian/vegans, etc).

Don't know if he'd want to ever hold public office though.

But, my money is on Schroeder. His politics are a little more stealth than Russell's and he's younger.

9. I hope various Republican hopefuls claw each other to bits in the
primaries such that none of them is entact enough to survive a general election.

Romney's got some cash. Huckabee's got some charm. Palin will inspire secessionist cranks. And so forth. But all their combined attributes doesn't add up to one convincing challenger to Barack Obama.

The Pukes got nothin'.

19. While I suggested these 3 more or less in jest, I think they will look for new blood
Mittens will have the same liabilities in 2012 as 2008.

Ron Paul will be too old, but I would not shocked if their eventual nominee (or the nominee of a yet-to-exist 3rd party) comes out of the Ron Paul Revolution.

Sarah Palin has too much family drama and is too easy a target.

Huckabee will stay most likely stay on FAUX, but I wouldn't be shocked to see him run again.

If Obama looks vulnerable, Jindal will run; he's so young, however, that 2016 would probably be a much better shot for him.

The Bush name will still be too tarnished for Jeb to run

22. I think you hit the target on all points. They are in deep trouble
as a national organization.

Romney's sheer ambition may cause him to implode. He wants this way too badly.

Palin would be good for us because she'd be a disaster for them.

Edited on Tue Mar-31-09 03:29 AM by saltpoint
If Obama is still riding significant approval ratings, it almost won't matter which nominee the Pukes send up.

So they might as well nominate a celebrity instead of a public servant, and Chuck Norris might be just the guy.

How about a Chuck Norris / Eric Cantor ticket?

20. Their new faces have exploded almost as quickly as they are identified
It took Palin less than a month to self destruct, but Jindal did it on his debut the big time.

I don't think a celebrity is the answer - even Reagan was active in politics for more than a decade and was Governor of California. I think that Romney of Gingrich, 2 despicable people, may be the best at seeming to have gravitas. If there was a younger superstar in the making, I would bet on him waiting 4 years to get an easier race. They seem to be pushing Corker a lot - so h might b a possibility as well.

and hope that Corker can be cast as a good conservative - without the baggage of Palin or Huckabee.

in the past they've fielded people who for the most part can at least feed themselves.

40. Mr. Heston was once one of us before he turned to the dark side
Heston campaigned for Presidential candidate Adlai Stevenson in 1956 and John F. Kennedy in 1960. Reportedly when an Oklahoma movie theater premiering his movie El Cid was segregated, he joined a picket line outside in 1961. Heston makes no reference to this in his autobiography, but describes traveling to Oklahoma City to picket segregated restaurants, much to the chagrin of Allied Artists, the producers of El Cid. During the civil rights march held in Washington, D.C. in 1963, he accompanied Martin Luther King Jr. In later speeches, Heston said he helped the civil rights cause, "long before Hollywood found it fashionable."
