Here's the kind of present Obama needs to start giving world leaders: |
|
Face it, none of these people needs or wants anything that they can't buy themselves. What Obama needs to do is to start a new fashion in gift giving: give a gift to the public good in the name of the recipient. For example, how about giving every kid in a poor school a book of their own in the name of the Prime Minister of England? Or a case of vaccines to a clinic in Africa? A park bench on the Mall?
It might start a trend, and Lord knows these guys all have more than enough pen and pencil sets!

6. Don't we already do that when the country receives US aid? |
|
The gifts aren't substantial in cost like they use to be.

8. The gifts are more bother than they're worth, really. |
|
The President is only allowed to keep some of them , the rest have to go into the Smithsonian or something. I think it'd make more sense to spend the money on something worthwhile. It doesn't have to be in a foreign country - the donation could be to a worthy charity here or to an international charity like Medicins sans Frontiers or the Red Cross or Red Crescent.

7. I think that is a terrific idea - especially when there is so much need in the world right now. |
