I'm pretty embarrassed about how my generation has wielded power... |
|
All that idealism, all that big hoopla about how this generation would be different, that we would change the world was nothing but bullshit.
Maybe after Clinton proved to be all too human and Bush blatantly laughed at all that touchy feeley stuff, what can we expect.
Now that the X'ers are creeping into power they are just more of the same old same old.
Here in Cleveland, Ohio, our generation watched as a once vibrant city turned into a burned out shell of itself surrounded by the oppressive banality of suburbia. But when we "needed" new stadiums to keep the Indians and the Browns, we rose to the challenge and funneled over a billion dollars of precious public resources to extremely wealthy sports team owners so they could entertain us at 100 bucks a pop. Oh, and don't forget the Cavs, they got a brand new spanking state of the art coliseum. What's a half a billion amongst friends. Privatize the benefits and socialize the cost seems to be the rallying cry of our generation.
Anyway, this stuff about the torturers going scott free, about not prosecuting the horrible wrongs done to the Constitution over the past eight years about letting a cadre of Goldman Sacs bandits steal billions while nakedly sabotaging their competition on the public dime just really ticks me off.
I mean, I get it. I know that Obama wants to put it all behind and keep his focus on the future. But doesn't he understand that if he doesn't seek at least some kind of retribution it will all just happen again. And Mr. President, I don't think the country can survive anymore ethical lapses. Our country has to be sustained on rules, law and order because when you strip off the veneer of patriotic mystic, Mr. President, Laws, rules and structure are all we really have.

I don't think it's over if it was why did he allow the memo's to be released? There's more going on here then we know about.
Investigations and potential prosections are not improbable.
Don't forget with the release of the Torture memo's the Hague has hard evidence that the leaders of the DOJ up to the * allowed this torture. The judge that is now a Federal Judge can be prosecuted, Alberto...can be prosecuted.
It's not over....

3. You've put your finger right on it. |

Any more ethical lapses and we've gone off the cliff.
That shining city on the hill will be tarnished beyond belief...And beyond redemption.
