Torture memo judge expressed regrets

LAS VEGAS, April 25 (UPI) -- U.S. Court of Appeals Judge Jay Bybee, has expressed regret for signing off on a key Bush administration "torture memo,"colleagues say.

Bybee, who in 2002 was head of the U.S. Justice Department's Office of Legal Counsel, signed the legal justifications for harsh interrogations for suspected terrorists released this month by the Obama administration. The memos' contents have created a Washington uproar and resulted in calls for Bybee's impeachment.

Bybee has voiced some regrets over the memos in the past few years, friends and colleagues told Saturday's Washington Post.

"I've heard him express regret at the contents of the memo," an unnamed fellow legal scholar and longtime friend told the Post. "I've heard him express regret that the memo was misused."

"I got the impression that he was not pleased with that bit of scholarship," said another unnamed Bybee associate. "I don't know that he 'owned it.' … The way he put it was: He was head of the OLC, and it was written, and he was not pleased with it."

Bybee refused comment, the Post said.

On edit: *cough* bullshit *cough*

1. "I don't know that he 'owned it."

I think he needs to "own it".

We need to make sure that he "owns it".

4. There are times when being regretful just doesn't
cut it. He can't go back and undo anything. He did a cruel thing and affected the lives of countless people in a cruel and inhuman way. He needs to pay the piper.

5. If he regrets it so much
he can just turn state's evidence and sing like a widdle birdy.

Like that's gonna happen. :eyes:

12. Hairy Reed, said through a spokesman yesterday,
Jay Bybee is a decent, honorable and respected man. As heard last night on Countdown.

With an asshole like this in the leadership, is it any wonder that the Blue Dogs and repukes run roughshod over everything?

By the time Hairy is done, Bybee will be getting a Medal of Freedom.

21. I dont think its possible
we have a weak dem party here in Nevada. Reno has a decent organization but Las Vegas is FUBAR. We have no one waiting in the wings to challenge him. Our best dem candidate just got elected to the house after losing to a molester in her bid for govenor.

I want reid gone but I am afraid the only way to do it is to replace him with a puke.

15. If he "wasn't pleased with it", why didn't he say so before he found
himself on the hot seat?

Seems to be incredibly self-serving to bring that up at this time. Like most people with a criminal mindset, they think they will never get 'caught". Bybee was not only caught, but made his own noose as well. Now, he regrets his action. Right...:eyes:

18. I wonder whether a sitting federal judge can be disbarred?
assuming he won't resign and Congress hasn't got the politcal cojones to impeach him?

And what if any effect would that have?

19. I wonder how many people have come before his bench who have "regrets"?
I wonder if they feel they shouldn't have been held to account? I think Bybee may be the best thing to happen to an investigation. He may, unlike Cheney, have a shred of decency left. I certainly hope he doesn't meet with some misfortune, of one kind or another.

Try the bastard and then disbar him after bankrupting him. I am not in the least vindictive, ha, I just hate the bastard and all of his ilk.
