What political risk is there if the President pushes for EFCA?

This is one area where I don't understand why Obama hasn't piped in more. I know he is on record in support of it - and he certainly won't veto it if it passes - but why not light a fire under Congress to get it going?

Was some deal made with certain blue dogs that they will support health care if he doesn't push this?

I mean, what is the "harm" of a DEMOCRAT coming out for unions? We are expected to be pro-labor as much as we are "tax and spend". Furthermore, he is the President and isn't necessarily beholden to a specific district/state where there might be a local battle between management/labor. He could just come out with a commercial or have private meetings with those holdouts in congress to help move things along.

Personally, I don't think EFCA is that risky a leftward move so as to jeapordize his support in the center and with swing voters.

I'm not trying to bash Obama here, just wondering what he might be up to. He needs to give labor some good news because this auto industry stuff is going to get ugly (and not all of it within his control either).
