Poll question: SHOULD Sestak take on Specter?
THe seat is probably safe with Specter (for good and for bad)
Sestak seem to push a Baby Grand piano into the doorway last night on Hardball

Toomey is farther right than Santorum and is a base only candidate. And their prbably is not real downside to the party for a vigorous primary battle,

So the Question is SHould He jump in... Or run for Governor and bide his time.

1. Sestak likely knows Specter didn't cross the aisle entirely of his own volition
but rather with the blessing and knowledge of the White House.

If I were a Pennsylvania voter and the choice between the two were offered on a primary ballot, I'm going with Sestak.

But I think the ripple buzz suggests that Arlen sails unchallenged to the Dem nom in that race.

2. Rendell owns PA; Sestak won't run. Spector has 100% name recognition and 71% approval from Dems.

Sestak isn't going to risk his pot of gold and debt to challenge a hugely popular incumbent. Bet on it.

5. Rendell is term-limited in 2010 but he still owns the state machinery NOW; Sestak won't be running.

3. Whether he should or not is irrelevant.
I believe there will be no oxygen for any Democrat but Specter. I have no doubt that before he switched, Specter got assurances from EVERY prominent Democrat in Pennsylvania and Washington DC that they would do everything in their power to make sure he wins.

6. Somebody should - run on strong progressive policies, forcing Specter to support them in REAL life.

10. DING DING DING! BlooInBloo, you're our grand prize winner!
Somebody should - run on strong progressive policies, forcing Specter to support them in REAL life.

That's what I say--at the very least, such a candidate would keep Specter honest.

17. No.
But I have never felt like chiming in on your posts in the past. The last few days I see so much more of your thinking, which is cool, and I applaude that.

7. I *JUST* changed my mind on this issue--If Obama, Biden, Kerry,
basically good democrats have decided to support Specter. There is obviously something they know that I might not know. And they have given me no reason to question their judgment. So I'm about to do a 180 and defer the decision to those wise senators who know the real Specter.

9. Not everyone runs expecting to win.
If Sestak wants to run on principle, then yes, he should throw his hat in.

But if Sestak is looking to run and win, this isn't his year.

As much as I would like to see Sestak run and win, as a Pennsylvanian I know that Specter has popularity and name recognition. He would have a much better chance in the general election than Sestak would. He's far from perfect (which is also true of Casey) but as they say, politics is the science of the possible.

14. Can he run for gov? Rendell's terms are almost up, right?
The Dem who runs against Specter will get no support. It will be like the Rethug was here in CT when Loserman ran as an independent.

19. He won't because he wants a future in politics
and nothing would slam that door shut faster than crossing both Rendell and Casey in one move.

20. Yes
By all means - it would provide a debate on Specter's record as a Democrat.
