We need to remember that the Republican leadership DOESN'T really want to overturn Roe v. Wade |
|
I agree will anyone who feels that women's reproductive freedom needs to remain intact all ALL COSTS. That is a given as well as is an absolute measuring point for me politically if someone is not for such a critical issue.
If you are so-called "pro-life", you are hideous in my view politically. You want the Government to control woman's lives.
That said, anyone who follows the money knows that the Republican Party leadership DOES NOT really want to overturn Roe vs. Wade. Saying that they WILL overturn that legislation and/or try to make abortion illegal is merely a talking point for fund raising.
The last thing the Republican Party leadership want is to take away perhaps the biggest fund raising tool they have in their armory. With this weekend's "Rebranding" episodes happening in Arlington, a pigeon's short flight from the Capitol, they will beat their breasts that they are "the pro-life party".
All that means is that their KoolAid stand still has the sign on the table. It brings in millions of dollars into the coffers... perhaps even more that their other money-maker, anti-gay legislation.
But one thing you need to know: the last thing the Republican Party leadership really want is to overturn abortion rights. If that happened, they would have nothing that would mobilize their "base".

10. Some of them already did |

Why do you think so many Evangelicals and Catholics voted for Obama, even though they were probably holding their noses over his pro-choice views?

7. 10X answer, corporatist fund both side of those three divisive, polarizing issues to distract voters |
|
from critical things like health, education, and welfare that are are at the crisis level for blue/grey collar workers.
Those corporatists buy bipartisan support for bills that move us inexorably toward a New World Order corporate state and presidents sign such bills while flanked by leaders from both parties.
Benito Mussolini said, "Fascism should more appropriately be called Corporatism because it is a merger of State and corporate power."

9. You are so right about the Right in America |
|
They tapped into the overzealous Christian right hardline views and reeled them in and played them for decades.
I find it interesting that they have no qualms about the death penalty, no qualms about born-agains killing abortion doctors and bombing clinics yet even the crazy right don't advocate murder charges against the mother, hum-mm If she plans the abortion, isn't that conspiracy?
The Right wing only wants a divisive issue. Nothing more nothing less.

11. 1/2 of the Republican Base Wants to.. 1/2 does NOT |
|
The Theo-Con's actually are very desprate to over-turn Roe v. Wade. They won't know what the hell to do if it actually happens, and poor single mothers start having 200% more illegitimate kids - but we're talking about a voting block who doesn't really think beyond what Pastor Bob tells them to think.. so this is not shocking.
Now, the "smart" Republicans are the Wealthy Fiscal Conservatives. Are they selfish? Yes.. but they're also smart.. they didn't become Rich by being dumb.. they did it by being shrewd, cutting throats, and keeping every penny they find. Women who are forced to legally have kids that they financially can not support are now the problem of fiscal conservatives.. more of their money is now taken in the form of taxes to support kids that they care nothing about.
Right now Fiscal Cons will say "sure, i'm pro life" because it' gives the Theo-Cons the warm fuzzy feeling that they need to keep voting "R". That in turn helps Fiscals think they are getting lower taxes (which of course they're not..) and keeping more of their own money.
So that's how the dog & pony show goes!

13. True it rallies their religious right base, but the GOP is too shortsighted to realize that |
|
The GOP has gotten so radical, and so extremely right wing that they're too stupid to realize how much they have to lose politically by outlawing abortion (and they do have a lot to lose, it would completely shift the momentum the other way on the issue). The GOP leadership have become such religious fanatics that they view it as their quest from god and goal in life to outlaw all abortion in the world, regardless of 'political consequences' in their current life.

Seriously, it's hard to believe that anyone's seriously entertaining this conspiracy theory.
Knocking out Grisworld would be crown jewel of their all their "acheivements," as can be seen on any given day in certain state's politics.

|
It is absurd to argue that the people running the GOP now don't want to make abortion at the very least much harder to obtain.

18. This is actually a geographic thing |
|
Southern and Midwestern republicans would have no problem with overturning Row. They'll still be in power.
Northeastern and western republicans if you could talk to them off the record would love for the issue to go away. This along with the stance against gay rights, stem cell research, and other church state issues have pretty much destroyed their parties except for the rural areas in the north east and California, Oregon, and Washington.

19. They must "save" all their bloody shirt issues |
|
Their only hope of raising money from the boonies is to keep these poor ignorant folks worried sick..all the time.. about
guns god gays abortion evolution illeeeeeegals
If these "issues" were ever "resolved", how would they ever scare the people enough to get them to donate and support their team of wackos..?
These are the trusted favorites...trotted out every election cycle, waved wildly, and then put back on the shelf until next time..
Anyone of a certain age, remembers the theater serials.. the villain always got away at the end...to be continued..
