Former CNBC host Dylan Ratigan lands at MSNBC

NEW YORK (AP) — Former CNBC "Fast Money" host Dylan Ratigan has landed a new daytime program at MSNBC.

Ratigan's new show will air on the news network from 9 to 11 a.m. Eastern Time. MSNBC had few details about what it will be, other than a mixture of talk and news with a distinct personality.

It marks a continued shift away from actual news programming to more personality-driven shows on cable news networks. Ratigan's show will start on June 29.

Ratigan's move was a mild surprise, considering he had quit CNBC five weeks ago.

2. Based on his appearances on Morning Joe, I think he has a lot of promise
Edited on Thu May-07-09 07:29 AM by Phoebe Loosinhouse
to be an interesting and surprising host. He said today that he would try to spur discussions that were more "human" and not driven by idealogues. That would be a very refreshing change.

6. :-) MSNBC really should be ashamed that it's such a plantation
They have about 10 hours a day of talk shows with a dedicated host and not one of these is hosted by a person of color and only one hour is hosted by a woman (Morning Joe doesn't count since, while Mika's role can be described as many things, "host" does not jump to mind).

It's a complete disgrace.

7. It is definately a disgrace
This was mentioned during the Imus uproar and their defense was that they do have black correspondents who occasionally guest host.

5. Oh no. The last thing we need is a
loudmouth CNBC gasbag on MSNBC. Not happy about this at all.

9. Saw him on KO last night. He didn't impress me much. He kept interupting and talking over
Keith.

Whatev. Doubt I'll be tuning in. He kind of came off as a winger in sheep's clothing to me.

And as far as the diversity on MSNBC, the only person who comes to mind is Tamron Hall. I can't think of another.

11. I admire Tameron Hall but the "silly side" of me wants to call her position what it is on MSNBC ...

a la South Park = "Token" :eyes:

MSNBC needs to select a host of color or another liberal woman to lead the way.

But nope, they DEFAULT to another middle aged white guy. :eyes:

14. I don't think she is a "token"
She is actually very good - a far cry from airhead Contessa Brewer, who has no redeeming qualities whatsoever.

her.

18. Could be
But I also think she may have gotten positive responses from viewers. I remember discussing her with my daughter a year ago when Contessa Brewer was annoying the crap out of me. "See, she's (Hall) professional and coherent!" After that I started seeing more of Hall and less of Brewer.

Despite coming from CNBC, Ratigan was actually pretty fair. Hell, that's probably why he wanted to leave.

16. Please tell me it is the end of Contessa on MSNBC!
Contessa Brewer is without a doubt one of the worst tv "newscasters' on any network. A total airhead who can barely read the teleprompter. Please send her to FauxNews where she belongs. Tamron Hall- a real asset to MSNBC and has to be put somewhere. Another one who has to go-Alex Witt on the weekendsw, though MSNBC is so useless as a news network on the weekends it almost doesn't matter if they keep her.

19. Contessa Brewer must be related to someone in power
at MSNBC. She is more ET material, though I don't think she's even qualified for that.

20. Or intimately 'friendly' with someone in power.
which is what I suspect. Ever watch her ask a question to a guest in an interview and then immediately cut them off without them having the chance to answer in order to go to a commercial or end the show? Happens all the time. She is dumb as a box of rocks.

22. After an earthquake in California,
she was interviewing a reporter in LA. After the reporter was done talking, Contessa asked her a question and the reporter had just said the answer. She also said something about whether any shockwaves were felt in Sacramento which is in northern California, no where near the earthquake in southern California. She doesn't score well in geogrpahy as well as LISTENING.
