Most people don't want to have to follow a good act. Be it comedy, music, dance, whatever.
For some unknown reason, and after all the evidence is in about what a good speaker Obama is, some idiots insist on speaking afterward. Particularly old doddering ones.

We knew what time Cheney was scheduled before we knew when Obama would speak. If I were Obama, I would've let Cheney wait until after I spoke.
Too bad Dick had to follow some irrefutable facts, like the number of convictions Guantanamo produced in 7 years (only three), the fact that over 200 Gitmo detainees were released on Bush's watch, and that - lest anyone forget - 9/11 happened on the Bush/Cheney watch.

Why didn't he try to steal the limelight by speaking anyway? Methinks he wanted something to pounce on in what Obama said but he didn't get it.
