"Gitmo detainees will radicalize prisoners if we bring them into U.S. prisons." |
|
The newest line the RWers use, when confronted with the fact that no-one has ever escaped from a maximum security prison in the U.S., is that they will "radicalize" the prisoners already here and make them threats to our citizens if/when they get out.
And as "proof" of that, they cite the 4 guys who planned on blowing up a synagogue in NY. "3 out of the 4 of them came out of prison where they were converted to Islam and radicalized." That makes NO sense since they were not "radicalized" by suspected al Qaeda prisoners. Too bad nobody challenges them on their ridiculous comments.

they would probably be in danger if kept with the rest of the population. I don't think even hardened criminals would take too kindly to even alleged terrorists. Sadly, many of the detainees are innocent, and shouldn't be in prison in the first place. Perhaps we could just put Bush, Cheney & company in prison instead?

14. Put them all on house arrest together with Cheney |
|
And then make a reality TV show out of it, which will pay for the cost of their detention, sparing the taxpayers the burden. win win win!

But, we're trying reallly hard over here to frighten you. We're throwing everything against the wall hoping something, anything, will stick. Why aren't you terrified??
This is what they do. If one BS reason doesn't work, they move on to the next. Look at the latest reason they're against gay marriage: it's going to cost small businesses money. LOL! How transparently false is that latest attempt at bigotry?

they ALSO try to scare us by saying in prison they can have visitors and THEY can take the message of the detainees out into the U.S. which AGAIN makes no sense at all.
Yeah-gay marriage will cost money to small businesses, meaning straight marriages should be discouraged, too, if you follow their "logic."

supermax prisons are all about sensory deprivation and really torture. I wish there was a strong prisoner rights movement like there was in the 1970s.

20. We need to immediately cease all expensive supermax programs, then |
|
These programs have through the roof costs, yet we are here claiming that they cannot contain particular classes of prisoner. These programs, if they cannot match the security of Gitmo, should be ended immediately, and across the board. They are too expensive and apparently don't provide the security we need.

Remember Jeffrey Dahmer? He killed people. Then he ate them. Then he went to prison. Then he got killed in prison.
Maybe we should put them all in san Quentin with Charles Manson. He killed people. Then I think he became a born again Christian. Maybe he can convert some of those nasty Muslim terrorists to Christianity. Maybe the fundies would like that! :eyes:

32. Having worked in the prison system |
|
I can day that they would not be a threat at all. It would make sense to spread them out in different prisons so we do not create another GITMO type rallying point for radical Islamists. Take away their recruiting tool. Our prisons handles mush more dangerous individuals than these people.
I am certain that it would be cheaper to house them in existing prisons. Given the States' fiscal crisis they would probably welcome the additional federal dollars that would come with the inmates.

|
Edited on Mon May-25-09 12:39 PM by jenmito
our prisons would be "rock stars" and "atomic bombs" by all the damage they'd cause by "recruiting and radicalizing" like 100 prisoners each who will get out and then wage jihad against Americans. And he used the guys who came out of prison and then tried to blow up the synagogue in NY. "They were radicalized in prison and then got out and tried to become jihadists. Could you imagine how much harm these Gitmo detainees could do if allowed to be put into our prisons?" (paraphrased but that was the idea) :eyes:

36. All of that stuff is twaddle |
|
1) Most of these guys don't speak very good English and nobody really wants to join Al Queda anyway.
2) What visitors? Except for the lawyers and maybe an imam or two, there's nobody here to visit them. Their relatives are oceans away, and would need a visa to visit them at a time allowed. That's a visit that is known in advance and can be prepared for.
3) I've heard of at least three empty prisons-in Illinois, Washington State, and Montana. An empty prison would be perfect for keeping them away from other prisoners.
4) Do they know just how hard it is to attack a prison these days? Unless they can raise a local militia with heavy mortar firing cannons, there is no practical way to bring down a facility. A truck bomb won't do it, a plane won't do it either.

convert other people." That's what Gingrich said that FBI director Mueller said. First of all, they're NOT terrorists. They're SUSPECTED terrorists who could very well be innocent. Second of all, they will NOT be in the general prison population. Third of all, THEY would most likely be attacked by the prisoners if they WERE put in the general prison population. I'm sure the prisoners don't have a fondness for suspected terrorists. :eyes:
