Why Didn't Obama Appoint Jonathan Turley, Self-Proclaimed "Academic", to the Court??
Edited on Tue May-26-09 10:54 AM by K Gardner
Because he's an arrogant ass, that's why.

There are probably other reasons, but watching Turley openly and unashamedly bash this supremely-qualified, strong, wonderful woman, I now understand our President's emphasis on "empathy".

Thank you, President Obama.

And thank you to Celina Sotomayor - much like Stanley Ann Dunham - a woman strong enough in difficult circumstances to raise a child who can achieve their highest dreams; a child who can make us all proud to live in the United States of America.

His semi-fame has gone to his head.

noticed before what a prick he was.

19. He's been doing it all year. I noticed when he would praise Obama with a put down.
Basically he always found something wrong with Obama's decisions and would always find something wrong. And he would make a logical case for most people because he'd bring in the law. For him, this was another failure to the rule of law.

ON EDIT... 'sorry, I see you were referring to Sonia's Mother..

As to Turley, that green eyed demon is best kept hidden... I often agree with Turley but am disappointed to hear of his reaction...

Yes, Stanley Ann Dunham was a woman, better known as Ann Dunham, Obama's mother.

So I'll just say the "more" part. He also probably lacks the quality of empathy.

I think he would fall short of Obama's "empathy" requirement. It's good that he stays where he is.

14. Turley was just on MSNBC again. What he said -->
He says Sotomayor has a "lack of intellectual depth" and she won't be "the equal of Scalia". He continues and says "Thurgood Marshall's decisions did not have massive intellectual impact on the Court" but he "understands liberals' joy at her being a woman and an Hispanic." What patronizing arrogance. He might as well as said it's an affirmative action pick by President Obama.

29. I understand now why Obama was so "taken" with her. Look how much they have in common - and both of
them now having to stand and face the "arrogant elite" in congress, in the media.. in academia.

This is most certainly a lose/lose for anyone who chooses to attack her.

Look what happened to Obama's opponents :-)

.... sorry, with the white hair, dont know his name. Something along the lines of "some scholars are complaining about her not being scholarly enough .... it's the US Constitution, it's not nuclear physics!"

He sounded as aggravated at what Turley was saying as we are.

PLEASE RACHEL!!! Do NOT have him on tonight so he can sneer about all that Obama is doing wrong and you can make the sad/concerned face. lol

so now he's a political pundit gauging the quality of his opinions based on how politically-smart they are.

...every single SCOTUS pick from now until the Earth's inevitable flaming spiral into the sun is going to be "controversial" given politics in the States right now. I'd be more worried if there was an "uncontroversial" nominee, if just because it'd almost have to be a perl script or something instead of a person.

Obviously, like every whining privileged white male who went to Northwestern (undergrad+grad included), blame affirmative action for shutting them out of the Ivy League, so Turley never made it, now blames affirmative action... these Northwestern guys--whiny privileged little girls...Sotomayor graduated freaking #2 at Princeton and made the Yale Law Review...

Intellectual light weight? Come one Turley! You are a pompous lightweight, hiding in your ivory tower!
