Naturally, ANY time a woman is selected for a high position, some more-qualified MAN was passed over
And if the woman is a minority, the man who was unfairly passed over was white.

So this is another "diversity" pick, an unfair "reverse racism" decision, and it's SO unfair to the superior people not chosen.

:sarcasm:

1. Of course
Those poor downtrodden white men, you'd think they'd want to be in the MAJORITY in the legislative and judicial systems, huh? The nerve.

Oh, wait.

2. why does this crap come up everytime?
everytime theres a nomination of anything or anybody this same damn debate comes up...

its a bunch of BS, and all of you FIGHTING over someone saying 'the best qualified person' regardless of race or gender is just rediculous.

i frankly could give two big steaming piles of poo what someone looks like, as long as they are intelligent enough to do their duties...

obamas pick is definitely qualified for the job.

so woulda been anybody with her qualifications, regardless of what they looked like.

5. Oookay....
My point is about talking heads and the frequent assumption that someone else (white, male) better qualified was overlooked in order to appoint a minority woman.

10. It comes up because nobody whines louder than a conservative white man.
Honestly, they had all the cards in the playing deck for ages, but now that they actually have to compete they just can't take it.

3. I support affirmative action
When the court looks like America, 50/50 men, women and a nice mix of ethnicity - then we can pick a white male again. If they hadn't institutionalized bigotry for hundreds of years, we wouldn't be in the position to have to favor other groups to undo it.

9. Precisely...America is a melting pot and
why should it only be represented on the SC by males? As long as Sonia Sotomayer is qualified..I think it's an excellent choice to represent the women in America and the Hispanics.

4. Rebut it by saying that a man would not be necessarily more qualified
when issues come before the court that are female related.

Or even when it pertains to marriage issues that include both sexes. Yet, it is a man dominated court that decides the outcome. And I don't agree that the males on the court would necessarily be influenced by their spouses. Not if the spouse might be substantially weaker in their demeanor.
