Ed Show: Killing Public Option--I HATE the Senate!! |
|
Edited on Wed May-27-09 05:25 PM by vaberella
People keep bashing O, on getting things done. He's being shut down by Senators. I really hate the Senators. No joke. I mean there are these crazy ConservaDems and the damn Republicans, together they can fuck us up.
I really worry, I mean seriously worry about the public option. I have a strong support for it, as long as it meets O's demands. Schumer is fucking us up. Baucus is an asshole. We have Bayh and he mini army who's against us. I mean..if single payer is off the table (and I have issues with it---considering I'm a fan of universal health care with certain conditions), at least give us this.
I knew Schumer would do this and he needs to go. Besides his support of immigration rights, Schumer does nothing for me as a New Yorker and as someone without health care he's just inadvertently killing me.
I feel like firing all the Senators except a choice few (this includes some Repubs) and start over. President O can't get shit done with these people.
I think President O came to realize that even if we have the both houses, it means nothing when we have skins (or sockpuppets). Damn.

17. Obama is ramping up his health care campaigning. |
|
Go on barackobama.com, and you'll see he's setting up a conference call today, his site's setting up health care reform events, and that sort of thing - getting the activists in gear.
As mentioned, in June, we'll see him ramping up his public campaigning.
We definitely should be encouraging President Obama to push hard for a strong, Medicare-like public option - the bully pulpit would be useful for making sure that gets in the final bill.

5. they don't listen to their constituents. they listen to the money going into their |

re-election coffers. and the fact is that we don't have enough money to counteract that. It's beyond ridiculous. House and senate members are supposed to be representing their constituents, but they are too busy keeping their donors happy. grr.

8. Congress is a lot more progressive and responsive to the people. |
|
The Senate seems to be pretty f!@#ed up. The biggest defense against Schumer and Baucus is an electorate that is TOO INFORMED for them to pull their usual BS. I think we might actually be at that stage.
Keep the emails, the calls and letters to their offices coming - eventually they will have to notice that perhaps this time the topic is too important and people care too much.

10. I agree, that's why I don't hate them. The problem is really the Senate. |
|
What makes it worse is that the Senate is like the final say on things unless the President vetoes it.

There will be meetings across the country on June 6th to kick off Obama's health plan. Sign up to attend or host one. It's so easy even I can do it.

That's what the conference call is for.
He wants a public option in there. We need to push the Dems in the Senate - HARD. They're the weak link.

The package is still being developed. There are three core principles that must be met. Reduction of cost Patient choice of doctors Provide quality affordable care to all Americans Our choice is to keep health care as we know it with 46 million people remaining uninsured and more being added to that list everyday or working toward affordable health care for all. That choice is easy for me. I will be working to help the President. I know I won't get everything I want, but that won't stop me. Out of the way, neysayers. Healthcare reform is on the way!

16. Agree with you about Schumer |
|
He seems to rarely vote the way I'd like him to. His office doesn't respond to emails either with even a programmed automatic response, or at least they didn't up until last fall. Shows how much they care about constituents. I don't know who would run against him in a primary though or who would have a chance.

22. It costs a lot more to win a Senate campaign than a House campaign. |
|
The people there are a lot richer and have received a lot more donations from the Health Insurers.
I would love to see the House pass H.R. 676 and throw it in the lap of the Senators just to put pressure on them.
