THis is great triangulation.

Kay Bailey Hutchinson is runnng for Governor to do that she has to get by fello repuke and current governor/secessionist Rick Perry, Becuase of th politics and Demographics of Texas Both need to appeal to the base in the primary and Hispanics in the general.

Perry is going to force the issue by coming out against the judge and calling on KBH to "do the right thing" If she takes the bait, she might win the primary but pisses on the shoes of voters she needs in the Fall.

If she doesn't take the bait the base might vote for Perry because "KBH can't be trusted" and "is secretly a Librul"

But either way.....Hispaincs in Texas get more havked off at the GOP and that helps us in statewide and legislative elections throughout the state.

3. I googled and found this:
Edited on Thu May-28-09 09:45 AM by Pirate Smile

"In 2006, 48.3 percent of Texans were White; 35.7 percent were Hispanic; 11.4 percent were Black; and 4.6 percent fell into the “other” category, which includes persons of American Indian, Asian and Hawaiian descent, among others. This is in contrast to the U.S. as a whole, which was 66.4 percent White, 14.8 percent Hispanic, 12.3 percent Black and 6.6 percent “other” (Exhibit 3).4 Hispanics are the fastest-growing population group in Texas. The Hispanic population in Texas has grown by 10.9 percent since 2000, when Hispanics accounted for 32 percent of the Texas population.5"

http://www.window.state.tx.us/specialrpt/tif/population.html

I'm sure those numbers have gone up too.

edit to add future projections:

11. That's a little over optistic.
In Texas the 29% are still the majority. In our last cockamamie election there were two Republicans running for governor and together they got 57% of the vote. This might have given the one Democrat running a fair shot (he got 30% of the vote--9 percentage points shy of Perry) except that a wacked up independent celebrity masturbator jumped into the fray and pulled enough votes from the Dems to let the split Republicans still win.

It's very unlikely the Republicans will split their votes again--they won't try and dodge that bullet again.

While the state is about 1/3rd Hispanic, they barely make up on fourth of voter. Amoung Texas Hispanics, there's a lot sympathy for Republic pet wedge issues. It's not a majority. And they're not as loyal to the Democrats as you find in Hispanics in other regions of the country.

and say that this was not why Obama picked Sotomayor. :)

Though it still might help him.

10. The Sotamayor nomination is a gift that just keeps on giving
Edited on Thu May-28-09 04:17 PM by zulchzulu
When the Repigs attack a WOMAN and a LATINA, they are basically approaching the "problem" with two daggers firmly planted in their chests politically.

It is PURE genius. Not just in Texas, but nationally, the attacks by the GOP show they really are fucking clueless... talk about evolution... these asshats are running full speed into a wall headfirst.

12. The GOP's Lou Dobbs bloc is a sword with two edges
They're very energetic and open in their jingoism/racism, but that enthusiasm puts off the sane 70% in general elections.
