Hi Fellow DUers. FYI, I am taping a show tonight on Fox News for airing tomorrow at 10am Eastern |
|
The show I am taping tonight at 6pm and will air tomorrow on Fox News at 10am eastern is called "The Bulls and the Bears". I'll be part of a panel of some serious heavy hitters in finance (one of the guys runs a large fund, the other is a Director at Morningstar, etc.) talking about the idea of a National Sales Tax, what the SEIU endorsement of Sotomayor means and whether Unions are a good thing in general and another topic TBA. Wish me luck, and if anyone has any suggestions for talking points, I'd love to hear them!

4. Some points (my opinion, you may not share it). |
|
National Sales Tax would hurt the pockets of the poor and middle class.
SEIU endorsement of Sotomayor is good. Unions are merely individuals agreeing to cooperate in the face of power, to ban them would be authoritarian and against America.
If the TBA discussion has *anything* military related, flex your credentials! They need to respect that you are a military guy.

5. In reference to unions |
|
ask why Henry Ford paid his workers so well? It was so they could afford to buy cars.
This is what unions are about. Getting good wages and being treated with respect for doing a good job.
Higher wages for all workers are needed to rebuild the economy. We believe in demand side economics, not supply side. Demand economics: If demand goes up, the supply goes up and business's get bigger. Higher wages increase demand. Supply economics: If supply goes up, nothing changes. Demand doesn't increase, no benefit to the economy.
Supply & Demand is so simple, yet so few people understand it.
Good Luck!

8. Well, not exactly. Not at first. Saw a documentary on Ford. Ford didn't pay his |

employees very well. The employees ended up striking. Ford wouldn't give in. Until his wife told him to increase the pay of his workers or she'd leave him. So he did, presumably reluctantly.
Later he said he paid his workers well so that they could buy his cars, I've read.
I assume the documentary was correct. But I don't know. But no, he did NOT want to pay his workers much, and he was willing to dig in his heels on the issue. Until the little woman stepped in.
Once again, a WOMAN saves the day!

6. We owe a lot of good labor laws to unions |
|
If the unions die, I believe we hit the slippery slope toward losing many of those good laws. I do, however, feel that there are some unions that need to clean house.
I think it's clear we need to generate more funds. I'd like to see a temporary National Sales Tax go into effect for say, six months or so. That should render enough data to convince people of the need, or lack thereof. We're all rather shell shocked, and becoming increasingly cynical. We're becoming "show me" types, whether we admit it or not.
Good luck!

7. The Bulls and the Bears show airs today at 10am Eastern time today on FNC, here is a preview |
|
The third topic is whether Obama's change to the mortgage incentive is a good idea or not. Obama is changing the $8000 tax incentive that used to be offered at the end of your first year of a mortgage to allow people who qualify for mortages to use it as a down payment.
OK, in the first segment about the idea of a National Sales Tax, I raised the issue of the deficit and how we need to get serious about paying it down.
In the second segment, I defended Sotomayor and her decisions in a couple of key cases including MLB.
In the third segment, about the mortgage change, well, I'll save that until after the show airs.
I had a good time participating on this show. I'm interested to hear your opinions.
