White House: Sotomayor thinks she used "poor" word choice in 2001 speech.
Norah O'Donnell added, "and on a Friday afternoon, too! (As if it's a "Friday news dump" item.)
A reporter asked a question about the speech, Gibbs said what he said, something about how she would've used different words if she could've, and now it's breaking news?! :eyes:

Her word choice was just fine.
Is this a n o t h e r case of a Dem caving to rightwing racist nonsense?

3. I guess it's just easier to diffuse the situation rather than |
|
letting more and more people add fuel to the fire.

6. NOOOOOOO!!!!!! I repeat, NO! You always face the attacks. Nothing festers. |
|
That is the motto of the Obama communications team and the greatest lessons learned from watching Gore and Kerry fumble and watching Clinton get hog tied during his presidency.
ALWAYS CONTROL THE MESSAGE. It used to be fine to say "let things die" and "don't dignify it with a response".
In the world of 24 hour cable news and blogs of all stripes, etc. You must be out with quick response on all stuff.
That is the lesson from previous Dem disasters. Which is why I am okay with Nancy Pelosi choosing to get out there and challenge Republicans when they tried to say she knew about torture in 2002. Even if it caused her some problems as she got the message right...she controlled the message.

4. It would be impossible *not* to use "poor" word choice... |
|
... if your listeners are intentionally working to misunderstand you.
Enter, the GOP...

9. Gibbs was asked about it. Just like Obama put on the flag pin to shut the people up |
|
who keep whining about him NOT wearing one, I don't see any harm in just saying she would've used a different word than "better."
