Thank You Hillary Clinton: She Helps Bring Back Home Abducted American Child
Edited on Tue Jun-02-09 10:23 AM by SuperTrouper
Here is the story of David Goldman and his son Sean, who was abducted and taken to Brazil by his estranged wife, Bruna. Years after legal battles in Brazil, finally today the American father is able to regain custody of his son and bring him back to the USA. This was helped by our wonderful Secretary of State Hillary Clinton. Here are links to David and Sean's story...

3. 3000 cases last year, 66 in Brazil alone. Brazil is the worst offender
since they ignore Brazilian and International law most of the time. I am very happy for Mr. Goldman, he has been fighting the system for a long time. Finally, he will be reunited with his son.

4. No, they did very little. In a TV show they had a statement from the Bush State
Department saying they were trying but Mr. Goldman did not seem convinced by their actions. When SOS Clinton arrived in Brazil last week, this case was first in her agenda and now, suddenly, we see the Brazilian courts rule in Mr. Goldman's favor. Interesting timing. Condi got nothing done but Hillary is able to help...

6. This is an excerpt from Mr. Goldman's website letter asking for help from the US government in 2008
"I am engaged in a battle to regain custody of my son, who needs me more now than ever. Unfortunately, I am fighting against people with substantial influence at high levels in the Brazilian judiciary system, government and media. It is imperative for my success that I have high level support within the government and media of my own country. I need this now more then ever. I find it impossible to believe that the United States will passively allow the child of a U.S. citizen to be abducted and naturalized to another country."

9. I read the CNN report. It doesn't seem that Hillary Clinton had anything to do with it.
Standing ready to applaud her efforts, but it seems that all she did was make a statement after being informed that the Brazilian Court ruled in favor of the father (the father had sued in the Brazilian Court).

King: Secretary of State Hillary Clinton has raised the Goldman case with the Brazilian government. Anything you'd say to her?

Goldman: I'm just -- I'm so grateful and thankful that -- that she's helping me and she knows what's right and sees what's right and she cares about children and parents' rights to be with their own flesh and blood

67. And the Brazilian Foreign Minister called the court?
In other words she pulled strings to have the court in Brazil rule the way she wanted?

First of all, I don't think so. Second of all, I don't want a secretary of state who pulls strings.

She might pull strings to have the Brazilian government look the other way with regard to deforestation so that someone stuffing money into Bill's pockets can do a little oil exploration. Corruption is corruption is corruption. There is no "good" to corruption.

14. Here is article titled: Clinton intervenes in US-Brazil international custody dispute
Secretary of State Hillary Clinton said Wednesday that she is pushing Brazil’s government to return an eight-year-old boy allegedly being held by Brazilian relatives although his US father wants custody.

“I did raise it at the highest levels of the Brazilian government,” Clinton, told NBC television in an interview of the case of Sean Goldman.

“I’ve been working with several members of Congress. We are hoping that this case gets resolved.”

“It is in their court system. They have an independent judiciary like we have an independent judiciary. Sometimes we’re on the receiving end by families elsewhere in the world,” Clinton added.

Clinton said Goldman’s case is an example of a problem around the world. She said there were nearly 50 U.S. children in similar situations in Brazil who should be returned to the U.S. — and more around the world.

She compared the case to the Elian Gonzalez custody battle, which ended in 2000 when the administration of her husband, President Bill Clinton, decided that a young boy should be returned to his father in Cuba over the objections of relatives in Miami.

21. Good news! With the power of the super-duper popular President Obama behind her, how could she fail?
Edited on Tue Jun-02-09 12:41 PM by ClarkUSA
FYI: President Obama and the president of Brazil are very fond of one another. And Obama has a huge popular following in Brazil. They followed the elections quite closely and were overjoyed when Barack won and won again. Presidents Obama and Lula's recent meetings at G20 and the Summit of the Americas were very warm and extremely personal in its mutual admiration which is helpful in situations like this when the decisions are made from high above.

Your suggestion is not only dismissive of Biden and presumptuous but very unlikely in light of the fact that Richard Wolff (author of the new book "Renegade" having followed the campaign from the inside) said on Countdown tonight that Clinton was never considered for VP.

If we can't credit her with anything, then we can't blame her for anything either, logically. Just pay attention and see if certain people around here can restrain themselves when Obama does something via his SoS that they don't like.

63. Diplomatic skills?
Hillary Clinton may have wonderful diplomatic skills, but they have yet to be really shown - which is not unusual since she has been SoS for just 5 months. At this point, there is no HRC foreign policy point of view that has yet been articulated - though there will be one.

Clinton was always stronger on domestic issues rather than foreign policy - and her initial committee assignments reflected that.

quite a while ago.

How strange is this story that his mom died in childbirth?..which is very sad but now I'm thinking this is where little Sean should be..with his dad.

Thanks SOS Hillary.. "Secretary of State Hillary Clinton referred to the case Monday, telling reporters, "I also wanted just to take this opportunity to recognize the decision by the Brazilian federal court today ordering a young American boy, Sean Goldman, to be reunited with his father, David. It's taken a long time for this day to come, but we will work with the Goldman family and the Brazilian government, with the goal of ensuring this young boy's return."
