DHS Nominee Philip Mudd Drops Out Over Ties To CIA Interrogation Tactics

EILEEN SULLIVAN | June 5, 2009 03:33 PM EST | AP

Philip Mudd was scheduled next week to face senators considering his nomination as undersecretary of intelligence and analysis at Homeland Security.

He notified the White House on Friday that he was withdrawing his name because he did not want to be a distraction.

At issue was the extent of Mudd's involvement in the controversial interrogation program while he was a senior official at the CIA during the Bush administration. The interrogation methods have been harshly criticized by Democratic lawmakers and Obama.

2. The reason for even nominating him escapes me completely, so
I'm glad he bowed out.

3. I am glad he is gone. Anyone who is involved in Bush's crimes need not apply.

9. Eh, he had a lot of experience at the CIA and was recommended.
I am part of the "choir" and think Obama made a mistake and am glad the guy is gone.

10. Because he was experienced and promised to enact Obama's agenda. Obama fucked up here.
I'll defend Obama from any number of bullshit attacks, but Mudd was a terrible choice and he deserves the flak.
