There was no Obama snub of Sarkozy
The m$m should do their damned jobs and highlight the fact that this president is kind of busy. They complain when he takes a quick trip to NYC, they'd complain if he extended his time in Paris for a dinner. They complain...ad nauseum.

Obama downplays Sarkozy snub
@ 1:36 pm by Eric Zimmermann

President Obama denied today that he had snubbed Nicolas Sarkozy by turning down an invitation to have dinner with the French president and his wife.

At a joint press conference with Sarkozy today, Obama said he simply didn't have time for a long, diplomatic dinner.

"What it means is that I have a very tough schedule," Obama said in response to a question. "I would love nothing more than to have a leisurely week in Paris, stroll down the Seine, take my wife out to a nice meal, have a picnic in Luxembourg Gardens. Those days are over, for the moment."

Obama said the U.S-French relationship was strong enough to weather trivial P.R. snafus, and joked that he looks forward to spending more time in France once he's out of office.

"At some point, I will be the ex-President, and then you will find me in France, I'm sure, quite a bit, having fun," Obama quipped.

Sarkozy echoed Obama, saying he wasn't miffed that Obama turned town his invitation.

"Do you think our prime concern is what glossy magazine we'll be pictured in, or what restaurant we're going to go and spend an evening in, or whether we spend an extra night here or not?" Sarkozy asked.

"Do you think people are just waiting to see us hand-in-hand sitting here looking into one another's eyes? Of course not," he added.

5. There was no "snub" of the Queen
but the UK Foreign did MESS up. When the initial invite went out, The UK Foreign Office was going to go.

Sarkosky invited Gordon Brown to the Day-Day celebrations. Brown initially refused. When news got out that Sarkosky had also invited President Obama to the celebrations and he was attending, Gordon Brown changed his plans. He did not notify the Palace.

The Whitehouse intervened and President Obama told Sarkosky that the Queen should be in attendance. This was made very clear to the British Government. 10 Downing Street and the Foreign Office did not pass the invite on.

This was not a snub but it was a mess.

6. I wish I could understand why Gordon Brown would decline an invitation to D-Day celebrations.
Seeing as how the whole thing was staged on the shores of his country. That's the one deatil that just doesn't sit right with me.

7. The ceremony was in France?
England gave up France around the time it got Scotland. (Bad deal I think there).

On Sky News Brown told Adam Boulton that there had been the 50th and 60th celebrations which were on a large scale. He was the only British news reporter who had him on the ropes over this.

He carefully avoided developing on that point.

8. Seeing as how the D-Day invasion took place in France...
Don't you think it an appropriate place to hold ceremonies celebrating the event?

14. I'm not sure what you mean?
If you think Britain should have had a joint ceremony on the beaches of Britain, from where they launched - probably not. Their deaths occurred on the beaches and it was that battle that fatally undermined the Nazis.

10. on the other hand
"France" created modern Britain

Death of Harold in the Battle of Hastings

The Battle of Hastings also had a tremendous influence on the English language, introducing many French words that started in the nobility and eventually became part of the English language itself.

As Paul K. Davis writes, "William’s victory placed a foreign ruler on the throne of England, introducing European rather than Scandinavian society onto the isolated island" in "the last successful invasion of England."<3>

selfish, social shithead while credited by the press with "bringing dignity back to the White House."

I still can't get over it.

Obama's manners are above reproach and it makes their guy - GWB - look bad, so they're trying to make Obama not look so good in comparison.

And, yes, I'm still pissed that Sarkozy and Brown didn't see to it Liz and Phil were there. They're actually WWII veterans!!!!!!

The press is so dense it doesn't know there are more than a few crises going on in the US.
