Conditions for supporting (or not killing) a health co-op |
|
I hate the co-op idea, I think they would be too small to actually work.
However, if these assclown senators go down this route, the co-op should, at a minimum, have
1) directors appointed by the President
2) taxpayer backing ( in order to levy a threat against private insurers)
3) some mechanism for working with medicare/medicaid to negotiate drug prices
4) Be huge and national in scope (non of these tiny, local co-ops)
Even with these strictures, I'm annoyed with the possibility. But I could take this without wanting to know my arms off, at least.

1. To me a national co-op sounds better than single payer |
|
I still don't get what I'm missing here. It's a national not-for-profit health insurance company. Sounds great.

2. It needs federal muscle to push prices down. |
|
The federal government has more negoatiating power than a startup co-op with no political power.
Give it some muscle, and maybe.
