7. Is he demanding that Palestinians leave Palestine?
Or just that they allow Israel to cut up Palestine into itsy, bitsy pieces via the settlements?

8. The big demands I heard were recognizing Israel as a Jewish state,
a totally demilitarized Palestine and to reign in Hamas. Not sure if those are preconditions to talks or condidtions to an agreement.

10. An exclusionary and exclusive pure "Jewish" state? That's unacceptable
At least I hope that's unaccceptable to the Palestinians and the millions of non-Jewish people who live in Israel.

Israel's right to exist as an independent multi-ethnic state is a totally different question.

11. Yes, that will be tough one to overcome if they insist on it.
We shall see how this plays out.

13. It can't and won't be overcome and that's why the far right Israeli regime may insist on it.

While trying to create the false impression that they are making concessions!

12. without the removal of the vast majority of settlements - a Palestinian state is physically impossib
impossible. Everyone knows this.

There are approximately 450,000 Israeli settlers in the West Bank, (*now closer to 500,000) including East Jerusalem. According to B'tselem: The Israeli Information Center for Human Rights, " the built-up area of the settlements in the West Bank covers 1.7 percent of the West Bank, the settlements control 41.9 percent of the entire West Bank".*

“there is no Palestinian state, even though the Israelis speak of one.” Instead, he said, “there will be a settler state and a Palestinian built-up area, divided into three sectors, cut by fingers of Israeli settlement and connected only by narrow roads."

14. There are several issues that render any agreement impossible...
but they have to keep trying. The staus quo is also "impossible".

17. I disagree. The status quo is completely acceptable to the right-wingers in Israel

The collatoral damage of a few Israeli deaths every once in awhile due to suicide bombings or rockets is totally acceptable to the right-wing.

They don't like that, but the alternative is totally unacceptable to them .... a truly independent and viable Palestinian state on "Israeli land" that God gave them?

16. Thanks for the maps. That pretty much lays out the reason for Israeli settlements.
Could it be any clearer?

A chopped up Palestine can never become a viable independent state.

The only way a two state solution can emerge is if Israel disbands all of the settlements.
