It's All About Healthcare
Sure, there are a lot of other important causes out there and a lot of other critical things Obama has to deal with. Bush left him with an incredible clusterfuck.

But it's all going to come down to healthcare. If he gets it, even if it's a little less than single payer, we win. Other good things should follow.

If he doesn't get it, I don't know.

I could be wrong, of course, but this is what I'm seeing. Obama needs our support and we need Obama.

1. I will say this once and once only
If we get health-care reform without a strong public option, I am through with the Democrats and will most likely disengage from this site.

It is too depressing watching our side of the political aisle buck public opinion and let 6X as many Americans die every year than 9/11 just to pad the pockets of health insurance companies. That makes them murderers.

At that point, they are no better than Republicans...worse even, because they are displacing the People's seat in their own government. They are professional traitors and cowards that are unworthy of my support.

3. President Obama Is Out There Supporting A Public Option, And You'd Abandon Him?
President Obama has not been shy about backing a public option, so the lack of such an option is certainly not for lack of trying. Where are the rallies? Where are the marches?

I saw more righth wing folks demonstrating for the passage of Proposition 8 banning gay marriage in California, then I've seen demonstrating for healthcare.

Has the liberal populace abandoned liberal politicians, by not getting out there and demonstrating?

The tea baggers were able to make more noise than the pro-public option folks.

12. If there is no public option, I am gone
Good on Obama for supporting it, but if he signs into law a reform without a public option, all of his support amounts to nothing. It is calculated political weakness in the face of having both houses of congress, the presidency, and the support of the American people.

And please, do not come to a DUer who has been here for many years and lecture me on activism. It's insulting.

And if you want demonstrations, have at it....I've demonstrated before and been ignored by the party as well as the media. You wanna talk real demonstration, then talk general strike. Anything less is pissing in the wind at this point...the meaningless actions of day-trippers.

And Obama is not a liberal. Any fool can see that.

2. I feel the same way. If they Democrats can't handle this when they have all the power I don't
Edited on Fri Jun-19-09 04:32 PM by avaistheone1
expect they can or are even willing to change much.

If the Democrats can not do single payer or put forward with a truly strong public option my energies will go to develop candidates and a party where change is meaninful and not just political rhetoric.

If the Democrats are not goiing to VOTE as Democrats than TO HELL WITH THEM.

5. Tea Bagger Demonstations v. Healthcare Reform Demonstrations
Are there any healthcare reform demonstrations? Maybe this is why we are losing. Even the teabaggers were able to get more attention than those who supposedly support healthcare reform.

Sadly, the left is not organized enough to make an impact through a demonstration for healthcare reform. Instead, we can be disruptive, but can we be constructive? Can we demonstrate for reform, rather than against something?

Look at Proposition 8 in California. There were more protests AFTER proposition 8 was past, rather than before, which was too little, too late. We can't make the same mistake twice.

8. Tell the people about the sad stories when people died
people have died in needlessly because they didn't have money.

7. That's why my ass will be doing what I can on this all weekend!
I'm talking about having every member of my family write and mail and fax in letters, make phone calls, etc....

The will hear from my household if it is the last thing I do....and I'm not talking about just my Representatives, I'm talking about all of congress that I suspect are not in support of a Public Option. I believe that if we all did something similar, it would go a long way.

11. we could have large inflatable teeth in a similar way to the Macy's parades
These marches could go around malls and main streets where people are likely to see them. A lot of publicity is needed.

14. Yes. Thumbs up. I have a club function tonight and I plan to burn their poor ears off.
I better bring some letters for them to sign too. I will fax those letters in because letters take forever to go throught the government mail rooms in D.C.
