Rep. Mike Castle (R-DE) considering a party switch?
Rep. Mike Castle (R-DE) -- who may run for U.S. Senate, re-election or simply retire -- made a curious comment picked up by Philadelphia Business Today.

Said Castle: "They've asked me to run for the Senate as a Republican. I don't know if I'm going to do that."

Is Castle, a lifelong Republican, also considering a possible party switch?

1. That's certainly a quote that raises an eyebrow.
Interesting.

3. He is being Targeted. and will likely face competitive challenge from the DE Governor
And the Senate Seat is Bo Biden's for the asking.

9. Challenge is from the guy who lost the DE GOvernor race, the former Lt. Gov
And Beau Biden is NOT secure in a senate win. Beau barely won his AG seat and he hasn't served in that seat for more than a year (although mind you for part of that he got called up and shipped out to Iraq).

Mike Castle is extremely popular in Delaware and could probably beat Biden Jr. in the senate race. But honestly, Castle would be useless as a moderate republican senator in DC.

I hope he crosses!

7. I hear ya- but it could arguably weaken DEM's "we dont have votes" lie/excuse.

8. Then you don't know Mike Castle
I won't vote for him but he's a pretty decent guy and very well loved by both parties here in Delaware. We'll go 60% democrat every statewide election except for Castle.

If anything I think Mike Castle would make a much better democratic senator than Tom Carper

10. With Tom Carper, you're setting the bar awfully low...

6. Mike Castle is actually a very decent person
for a republican he isn't vile. He's pro-environment, pro-choice, pro-union but an old school republican like Specter.

I live in Delaware but I have NEVER voted for Mike Castle, I won't - he's republican.

But 2 sundays ago I had my picture taken with him along with Sens Kaufman and Carper. After the picture we all shook hands and I told Castle once again - you're the only decent republican in DC, you should switch parties. BTW, said that in front of both of the senators too. Biden was down the street about 100 yards so he didn't hear it.

I think Castle would win the senate race whether he ran as a democrat or a republican. He's very beloved here in our state - like your favorite grandfather that everyone loves. I also swear the fact that the most populated county in Delaware is New Castle probably helps him out too.

However,I think Castle as a Republican Senator would get eaten alive in the senate because he's further to the left than Collins, Snowe and/or Specter.
