Time to move on concerning Sanford.
He is toast on the national political stage so it appears to me that any more talk about this is just being a fucking busy body. The people of S.C. will have to decide his future in the state.

Things that are none of your business about anyone:

Who they are fucking
Where their girl/boy friend is
If they/ their girlfriend is pregnant
What their husband/wife is thinking or feeling

There are a lot more important things to do

33. The OP forgets the political hypocrisy implications of one of the biggest Tea Bag Asshats
Edited on Thu Jun-25-09 10:46 AM by zulchzulu
This is political gold to simmer for a while and yes, it is only the beginning.

This story skewers Republicans on several points:
  • Moral hypocrisy
  • Protests about the Stimulus Package with one of the most vocal opponents
  • Giving the Republicans a taste of their own medicine
  • Political obliteration of one of the Tea Bag Protest leaders

This, of course, is not the only issue we are facing or the only issue people are focusing on. The story is writing itself at this point and all we have to do is watch the Republican media channels have to report on one of their own.

This event also may make whatever few moderate Republicans waiting to leave the party to do so. That helps make the Republican Party head ever closer to becoming the New Whigs.

On edit:

What's funny about this thread is that the very intention to make us stop discussing the Sanford story is making us continue to discuss the Sanford story.

If the Op wants to discuss something else....um, discuss something else!

:hi:

You dont just up and disapear without telling anyone for 5 days just to go get laid. He could have made SOMETHING up. Got a $2000 an hour hooker to come to his hotel room in the city. I'm wondering what he really did.

Everyone likes to get laid. Lots of guys cheat on their wife. I dont give a fuck. But his story just stinks. And the MSM is going along with it. NOTHING TO SEE HERE HE WAS JUST FUCKING NOT DOING ANYTHING ILLEGAL!!!! right. If anything this seems like an engineered distraction from real events. The latest story on his secret "affair" is released during the exact time of the senate hearing of the Federal Reserves: Bank of America acquisition of Meryl Lynch.

The guy had an affair, admitted to it, and took questions. They are even bringing up his emails which are boring as hell. I mean what is the fricking story here anyway?

WE ARE STILL COMMITTING GENOCIDE IN THE MIDDLE EAST WITH BORROWED MONEY FROM CHINA!

13. Sorry, but HYPOCRISY is the issue of the times for RWers ...
As long as they claim moral superiority, and they do, it's a major story. People are sick to death of this duplicitous sham called FAMILY VALUES. I do feel bad for the wife and kids -- and this man should have thought about them before running off to Argentina.

Who was the Dem congressman who got in hot water back in the 70's for his romps with the "Argentine Firecracker?" That was news for a month. You just can't tamp this stuff down when stories continue to develop -- like trips to see the mistress on taxpayer money. That'll get Sanford out of job really fast.

17. There's more to it.
If Sanford just wanted to travel over there to see his mistress, he could have come up with a bullshit excuse, some trade conference he had to attend or something, and no one would have thought twice about it. Instead, he bolted over there without telling anyone, abandoned his car at the airport and had no contact with his family or staff. Something compelled him to do that, something that he decided he'd rather end his political career than reveal.

30. Uh, he's a prominent public servant.
You're going on about how his sex life is none of our business, but governors don't disappear for a week just to get laid. This guy threw everything away -- his career, his chance at the presidency -- for what? I think he believed he would end up dead or in prison if he didn't go to Argentina as fast as he could. Those are just about the only things worse than what did happen to him. Maybe he's involved in an international criminal enterprise, maybe he's in the pocket of some foreign intelligence agency. If he was, that's everyone's business.

If you're done discussing Sanford, then don't click on Sanford threads. This "you know why you're still talking about it" and "this sad affair is none of your business" line is utter sanctimony.

Why just start a thread explaining why you're no longer interested in Sanford instead of purporting to make pronouncements to others that this topic is now off the table?

49. Things that are none of Mark Sanford's business:
Whether individuals are allowed to marry the person they love regardless of their sexual orientation.
Whether anyone other than himself abides by his religious beilefs and "morals" which he would like to impose on the rest of us
Whether same-sex couples deserve the same rights and protections straight couples receive with regard to federal laws and benefits

63. you're right about who cares who he's fucking. However,
if he abused his position of power to cover up the affair, then no we should NOT move on, he should be investigated.
Plus the more attention that we pay to him, the more the rank hypocracy of the republicans is exposed.
And yes I live in NC not SC so I'm not allowed to comment on this OH WAIT LOOK i just did.

70. When a guy calls a press conference to announce that he lied and he's having an affair
He is inviting the attention. If you have a beef, take it up with Sanford.

93. Funny dat.
I certainly didn't know he was having an affair with another married woman until he got up in front of the entire nation and informed us.

But let's go easy on the guy. The weight of the hypocrisy he is carrying around must be bone-crushing.

71. You Couldn't Be More Wrong.

I didn't notice the Repubs taking such a circumspect, hands-off approach with Clinton. Why should we do any different with fallen Republicans? Foregoing such a potent political weapon is just idiotic---taking the Nice Guy approach is exactly what the right-wingers expect from us; they depend on it to win. Enough is enough....

72. WRONG. The asshole wanted to be Vice President and fancied himself as POTUS material.
Edited on Thu Jun-25-09 02:11 PM by Barrymores Ghost
He helped spearhead the Tea-bagger movement. He tried to derail the federal stimulus funding for his state and an investigation may turn up evidence that he improperly used taxpayer funds to pay for his international sexual dalliances. He left his entire state in a leadership vacuum for nearly a week without a word.

Oh, and he called a national press conference so he could spend 15 minutes babbling about why he lied to his family, staff and state about his magical email friendship that turned into clandestine shagging sessions. I'd say that makes it fair fucking game. I think he and his pseudo-Christian, feaux-moralistic, lying, cheating ilk should be made accountable for their hypocrisy.

Everything relevant to his disappearance should be picked apart under an electron microscope and made public for all to see and learn from. Fuck this business about it being South Carolina's issue. You gonna demand that news coming out of South Carolina be stopped at its borders? It's very much everyone's business at this point, because the man is a fraud and PLACED HIMSELF on the national stage.

I say, more power to them.

As you mentioned, the "Ignore" function is a handy feature. I mean no offense to you, but perhaps you can kindly show the "concerned," whining prat who started this thread how to use it.

What would we do without helpful posters to instruct us that a topic's relevance has expired?

There's a feature called HIDE THREAD. Learn how to use it.

Better yet, stop expecting others to share your personal opinion about what constitutes the proper time to discuss a given topic.
