that political appointments/positions in the Executive Branch of government are still not filled after six months?

5. Dammit! Not what I meant, but that's pretty funny. Do you think that's |
|
his fault? Did he change the rules, or have they changed via so much criticism? Who is at fault?
And as always, my dear OIC person, Dawn Johnsen, who Eric Holder needs desperately, can't get confirmed. x(

2. If the economy had turned around less than 6 months after Obama took office, the Repubs would say |
|
that it was due to changed put in place under Bush.
No one ever expected unemployment to have improved much by now. (Krugman said that fairly recently).
Those who expect that Obama could turn around the US in 6 months after 6 months of mismanagement are unrealistic, to put it politely. There are economic cycles. This downturn probably wouldn't be so bad if not for the Bush out-of-control spending on wars.
Watch Paul Krugman on the Colbert Report Mon July 13, 2009. "Things are getting worse more slowly."
"We do actually have people in the Whitehouse who understand this stuff. I think they're not forceful enough, but these are not stupid people, these are not crazy people. ... They understand what the problems in the economy are. ... These are not stupid people, they're not crazy, which is a big improvement on previous management."

|
know it's happening, but things didn't go to shit since Jan. 21.

6. That's how Obama has contributed to unemployment? I'm thinking |
|
he hasn't had much to do with it, which was my point.
Unemployment, not finances. I know, there's lots of stuff to get angry at.

11. I don't think he has - but I don't think he is helping either, |
|
Edited on Fri Jul-17-09 01:03 AM by Sen. Walter Sobchak
The bulk of nonsense being funded under the stimulus package just isn't labor intensive enough to make a macro impact on employment while coming at extremely high economic cost. Look at these rail projects - are they proposing to build them like they built the Central Pacific Railroad? I wonder if I can get a job as a powder monkey. 12. As far as swing voters & moderates go, they will blame whoever is in power... |

...fair or not.
So whether he "exacerbates" it is not really an issue.
With these voters-if the economy improves, Obama will get the credit. If it does not, he will get the blame.

With that said, there does come arbitrary point (everyone picks their own I guess) where if the president fails to do enough to combat growing unemployment in a Hooverish manner, then perhaps they bear some responsibility for not stopping it from growing. I don't think the first stimulus will be enough, but there is still time to do more.

14. By firing badly needed GLBT military persons |
|
He puts them on the unemployed list, making that list longer. He has personally ousted well over 200 of these people for being as they are. So while I know you were asking a disingenuous rhetorical question based on something else, and while I think over all he's mostly not exacerbating the situation, in those cases he has personally done the discharging, while millions beg him not to. So Dan Choi, not good enough to serve the religionist bigots of America, is unemployed and he does not have to be. And that is a fact, like it or not. If he just stopped firing people for being in a minority that would help. Would it not?

If president Obama weren't so Black unemployment wouldn't be what it is. After all, this economic crisis is all the fault of Barack Obama. He's black and has been president since January. As I recall the economy and everything was fine until he was sworn in.
