Burkett's lawyer interview |
|
on CNN. Was very strange. Says Lucy Ramirez called Burkett, said she worked for the Guard and had these papers. Said he could have them, but was so concerned about her identity, and the possiblity of "DNA traces" that she made him promise to burn the originals after he made the Kinko copies. Said some guy gave them to him at a rodeo, and vanished. Said he burned the original after making Kinko copies in Waco. Why would a retiree be so concerned about her identity? DNA traces??Why would Burkett, after being screwed in every way by the bu$hcos, losing his pension, the whole bit, BURN the originals? If he finally had something to get dumya, would he really BURN them? I don't think so. It just gets curiouser and curiouser.

2. Given what I've read of people... |
|
... speaking of Burkett's character, I can understand, in a way, him following through on his promise.
That he did not stop to think that he was being set up (which would negate, morally, any promises he might have made for the person's anonymity) is the great shame in this. In a weird, backhanded way, he may have been an unknowing participant in his own undoing.

5. I see only two choices here |
|
Edited on Tue Sep-21-04 08:16 PM by A_Possum
1) Either Burkett did forge the memos, and is lying his head off now to make it seem he didn't, or
2) CBS got caught in the middle of a Rove scam in which Rove had planted the memos on naive Burkett, who had been posting on the net about his feelings about Bush. Rove's intention was that Burkett would pass the copies to the Kerry campaign, who would air them and then get caught with the forgery. However, Kerry campaign wasn't interested (Burkett couldn't even get a phone call from them) CBS got in the middle and snatched the memos and Burkett got his "in" to talk to Lockhart.
Occam's razor would suggest #1 as the simplest. But there are certainly some weird aspects to the whole thing.
