John McCain may not vote for Sotomayor: "on the fence"
What an a-hole! He is such an idiot. I hope Hispanics are paying attention to this jerk and help vote him out of office.

WASHINGTON – Sen. John McCain says he is still on the fence when it comes to voting for Supreme Court nominee Sonia Sotomayor.

McCain says he is examining Sotomayor's record as an appeals court judge to decide whether she understands the limits to judicial power. He voted against her when she was nominated to the appeals court.

A Senate vote is expected this week.

The Arizona Republican says the prospect of Sotomayor becoming the first Hispanic on the high court is part of the discussion, and calls her a great American success story.

Two of McCain's close Senate colleagues differ on Sotomayor. Arizona's Jon Kyl is voting against her while South Carolina's Lindsey Graham plans to vote to confirm.

McCain spoke to CNN's "State of the Union" for its Sunday broadcast.

was the editor of the law review, and has more experience than any person up for the Supreme Court in the
past 100 years? You go John!

8. Who the hell is he grandstanding for?
I can't imagine him even running for the Senate next time around. Anyway, oposing Sotomayr when you come from a heavily Hispanic state is a little like nominating Palin for VP. And I don't even mean Sarah. I mean Bristol.

14. Poor McCain searching for relevancy:
He has to choose between his dwindling-but-vocal nut case far right constituency and the fact that
his main cheerleader during his presidential campaign (Graham) and a huge Hispanic population in his
home state will not respect him if he gives in to pressure to be a good old right wing boy.

He would probably prefer to break his leg the day before the vote, and not be able to attend, especially
seeing as how the outcome of the vote is already known.

He can piss off the 'Good Ol' Boys' who still cling to power, barely, or every Hispanic voter in his state.

16. Why does he need to search for it?
He basically has a standing invitation on any Sunday morning talk show. While most Americans see him as irrelevant, the media treats him as the ultimate voice of reason.

19. I'm not so sure
I think the media is searching for Republicans for their talk shows who don't froth at the mouth and generally
embarrass the party worse than it already has suffered, and they probably don't see a lot of choices out there.
McCain gets chosen for those shows by default as much as by choice, I'd bet.

18. We're to accept that McCain has unspecified misgivings about Judge
Sotomayor, a woman of significant, comprehensive, and long-standing experience in her field, but after speaking with a flirtatious dolt like Sarah Palin for 15 minutes nominates her as the Vice President of the United States?

I don't think so.

35. For the moment, I'm actually Stateside ...
very close to some of the DC sideshow action AND having great fun with grandbabies. The first has a closer relationship to the second than one might think, given some of the predictable shenanigans and tortured logic like McCain's.
But yes, I do love these internet tube thingies ... I cannot imagine how I would have survived without them, especially during the period from November 2000 up to January 20, 2009. What a bleak and desperate time!

24. How smart of McCain considering he lives in a state with lots of Hispanics!
What better way to reconnect with the latino community after leaving them feeling betrayed when you flip flopped on immigration reform then by voting against the first Hispanic nominated for the Supreme Court?

He'll be back in their good graces in no time! :sarcasm:

You'd think he'd have taken a hint by how Arizona started to get competitive at the last second in 2008, despite Obama ignoring the state for the most part, it was one of only 2 states he never visited (the other being Alaska).

What an embarrassment for MCCain to barely win Arizona after being their Senator for such a long time and Obama completely ignored the state, not visiting it once during the 2008 Presidential campaign. If McCain does not vote to confirm Sotomayor, then he has decided to retire because there is no way that he will win AZ without the Hispanic vote that is almost 100% in support of the Wise Latina, our first Hispanic Justice in the SCOTUS...and to us Latinos, Sonia is indeed a Wise Latina ;)
