ABC's Jake Tapper Rips Palin on 'Death Camps'
Edited on Fri Aug-07-09 09:45 PM by mikiturner
Pure, unadulterated slaughter:

One can question whether there will by necessity be any rationing decisions that will need to come as a part of health care reform (and, in fact, we have) but pictures of government bureaucrats forcing euthanasia upon seniors -- and, now, children with Down syndrome -- because they're not productive members of society are not part of any reasonable debate on the facts of the matter.

Asked specifically what the former governor was referring to when painting a picture of an Obama "death panel" giving her parents or son Trig a thumbs up or down based on their productivity, Palin spokeswoman Meghan Stapleton responded in an email: "From HR3200 p. 425 see 'Advance Care Planning Consultation'."

That's a curious reading of page 425 of the House Democrats' bill, which refers to “advance care planning consultation,” defined as a senior and a medical practitioner discussing “advance care planning, if…the individual involved has not had such a consultation within the last 5 years.”

Factcheck.org disputes this (death camps/killing seniors) interpretation, saying “accepted definition of end-of-life planning means thinking ahead about the care you would like to receive at the end of your life -- which may include the choice to reject extraordinary measures of life support, or the choice to embrace them….the bill would not make these sessions mandatory.”

Likewise, Politfact suggests that this interpretation was "Pants-on-Fire" untrue.

(The Heritage Foundation's Thomas) Sowell's (gov't takeover) are more reasonable arguments, though they don't exactly emphasize that health care insurance company bureaucrats already are making such decisions. In any case, nowhere does he raise the specter of an Obama "death panel."

3. Maybe it's gone so far, even the media hos have to decide how much
batshit crazy they'll ignore or sensationalize. Lines are being drawn.

7. This is the same thing that happened during the campaign.
McCain's fate was sealed when Fineman finally wrote the article on what he was hearing at the Palin rallies. This unleashed similar stories and criticism from all of the major news sources and scared off the moderate Republicans. It's about to happen again.

Thanks Sarah!

:hi:Psst Sarah, over here. You cannot euthanize Trig. What would ever possess you to think such a thing? No, seriously. What?

2. To be fair, Palin will get it for this comment.
Perhaps it will do some good--the media will focus on her comment and how utterly absurd an idea it is, blowing away one of the GOP talking points.

5. gop "talking points" always equal lies.
ANd, many poor suckers believe them. I got an earful first hand on a teleconference call with my Rep in New York, today.

But, he shot down all the lies the seniors asked about..there were 4300 of us in on the call.

4. The Dems better pounce on correcting this nut case phrase right away
The autocratic "leaders" out there will use this over and over and somehow it will become the "truth" unless an effective way to quash it happens soon. Let's have all the media take them on. Remember how a girl in a NC college was questioned by the FBI and Secret Service for having an anti-Bush poster in her dorm room? That seems so unbelievably tame when compared with all this!

8. Repeat a lie often enough and people believe it's the truth...
That was a propaganda technique the Nazis believed in using. The irony of this of course is that many of the people engaging in this spread of propaganda (via word of mouth, emails, etc.) are the same people calling Obama a Nazi. Perhaps they should look in the mirror at their own behavior.

6. Hmm
It's about time idiots like Tapper finally stopped looking the other way when this batshit crazy stuff is spouted out and actually do their jobs to confront this BS with facts and reason.

9. Jake Tapper ? that's surprising, but shows how low Palin has fallen
but i do think Tapper and others like Noonan who are critical of Palin and some others are because they want to win. and they know they can't with people like Palin leading the party.

10. The turning point is coming...these idiots are going too far even for the mainstream media
Its far beyond dissent and is going to break down in violence. It reminds me of Palin's rallies when she essentially said Obama was hanging out with a terrorist and therefore was probably one himself. Its getting ugly, which actually may be good for us. These idiots are painting themselves in a corner with their disgusting actions.

18. Yes, and she is quoting Nazi arguments. not the health care bill -- absurd and disgusting strategy
I doubt she came up with that on her own, however. Palin is just too dumb. But it has become a hugely inflammatory Republican/Limbaugh talking point --- accusing Obama of being a Nazi.

12. This sounds like a bad case of Munchausen-by-proxy is developing: "The child is in danger
from an evil black terrorist who is trying to send it to a death camp to be euthanized"

Normal people discuss their children without invoking elaborate extermination conspiracies

14. What's the big deal...
...if you don't have insurance and you get a life threatening disease, you are sentenced to death right now.

You can thank our current system for that.

17. It was not wise of Obama to go all dry wit on that "how do you want to die" question.
Edited on Sat Aug-08-09 02:54 AM by smalll
What did he say again? Something along the lines of, we don't have enough government workers to send them round to every old person to ask them how they want to die?

Trying to use dry wit on the national electorate never turns out well. Just ask Adlai Stevenson.
